one thing that does suck about this bench is that the i gives nvidia uders no justice at all. and that if you have a 9700pro you will get the highest scores even on a older computer, and in alot of games i play they take more cpu power to play well then video card power.

Couldn't agree more. Recently been playing Warcraft and Simcity4 which, whilst both taking GFX heavily depend on CPU power. In fact, most games that have decent PC AI need good CPUs as well as graphics.

No surprise that Nvidia don't support 3DMark2003 really is it. Untill they get their act together with a decent next gen card thay are in real trouble on the benchmark stakes.

Another strange thing with this benchmark.

I ran it before with only 1 screen, windows optimised for performance and internet, firewall, virus software etc off and got 5286. Just ran it with both screens on and everything else running as normal (including folding@home) and only lost a few marks: 5231

Oh well. More testing to go...

Downloaded and installed Detonator 42.68. Now I get a whopping 1765!! Yeah baby yeah!

I can't actually run 3DMark2003 (I think cos I've got a Geforce4MX440SE) but my 2001 scores are pitifully lower than everybody elses....4100

Is it all down to my graphics card, or is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Thanks

That is bad for that mx440. I did that good with my original radeon in a 1.4 athlon. You should be getting a better score than that unless those cards are not as good as I am thinking they are.

I have to admit, I was expecting better.

I did that after a clean install of XP as I was wondering if it was all the crap I had installed, but there was no real difference.
I'm just wondering if the bios settings are not set as well as they should be...

Any suggestions as to where to look for possible gains?

before the bios, have you gone to via technolgies and installed (removed the old one first) the new via chipset driver for your motherboard?

What video driver did you install, where did you get it?

How is your device manager looking, no question marks or red things?

All the drivers I am using are the ones supplied with the board and graphics card.

Could updated drivers make a significant difference?

If so, I'll get on to it tonight!
