SIS, Via and a 533MHz Intel licence

ONCE MORE, Digitimes reports on SIS and claims it has settled its little tiff with Intel and now has a licence for a 533MHz front side bus.
Which will cause everyone at Intel and SIS to breathe a sigh of relief because no one wanted there to be more litigation between Chipzilla and a Taiwanese chipset manufacturer.

But does SIS need a licence for 533MHz technology? That's the question that continues to puzzle us here at the INQUIRER.

Because if a licence is required – and we're checking with Intel to see what its position on this is – then that is likely to drag the chip giant into all sorts of further problems with companies such as... Via.
