Smile Re: Need: Intel 775 CPU for BIOS flash

Hi polonyc2,

My Maximus Formula shipped with 0602 BIOS. I put the 0907 update on a CD-R. I started the machine and pressed alt-F2 which brought up ez-update. I am up and running for now...

good news!!...lets see some benchmarks!

I'll be getting all my parts today and should start my build tonight...I'll be borrowing my co-worker's Q6600 CPU so either way I'm confident I can get my board flashed

Sorry polonyc2,

I cannot do any benchmarks until my RMA'd RAM returns. I was experiencing random freezing at the POST screen and totally blank screens...

Hi NBK:

the build went fine for the most part...I borrowed a co-worker's Q6600 CPU so I flashed the board to 0907 using a flash drive + EZ Flash...my E8400 was recognized right away...the board is really nice and has the potential to be an excellent performer after a few more BIOS updates

been benchmarking my rig all weekend and everything is 100% stable

did you get your RMA'd memory back yet?...did it fix the issues you were having?...how did you know it was the memory---Memtest?

Hi polonyc2,

I will not see that RMA'd memory until at least next week.

The screen would freeze during POST during the memory check and the ASUS LCD would display COUNTMEM. I swapped out sticks to no avail.

I had a problem during my build as well but luckily was able to sort everything out...it's frustrating when you finally start to put all the new hardware together only to find that something is not working...figuring out which of the many pieces of hardware might be defective is a pain but then again when you do finally figure it out it is kinda fun too

new system build

I did not install that external LCD poster because it didn't really give any useful information that wasn't already shown on the monitor during boot up/POST...they should have made it possible to view BIOS temps or fan speeds through that LCD display then I might have tried it out

You might have to set the memory timings manually and raise the memory voltage within the bios to make your system stable with this memory.

Hi VSEKH,

I tried all of that with a Geil tech to no avail.

Thanks,

the G.Skill memory is running flawlessly...first time buying G.Skill and I'm glad I did...passed Memtest with no errors...great price for 4 GB ($94), the blue color looks really sexy as well...even the box it came in was nice

G.Skill= highly recommended

I also recommend G.Skill memory. I have 4GB of DDR2-1000 memory installed in my Maximus system with no issues running at 1000 speed.
