I bought the ASUS Maximus Formula motherboard but it needs to be flashed with a new BIOS in order for the E8400 to be recognized...anyone have an Intel 775 CPU they can lend me?...or if you're in the NY area you can bring the CPU over and watch me flash the board and then take it back...can anyone help?...Thanks

**I can trade a Maxtor 300 GB SATA 3.0 hard drive, X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card or AMD X2 3800+ CPU in return

Re: Need: Intel 775 CPU for BIOS flash

It might boot, but it just says "Unknown CPU." That's my guess. If that's correct, then I'm sure you should be able to flash your board to the latest BIOS. Try it. You will never know.

I have one but it is being listed on ebay this week. Only asking $30 so it should sell fast. Too bad as it has sat in my closet for almost six months now.

guiness!!

which CPU did you use before the E8400?...what would it take to let me borrow it?

I just received my motherboard today and was wondering if there is a way to know what BIOS version ships with the board...is there a sticker on the box?...I think I remember one of my old ASUS boards having a sticker on it which listed the BIOS version...I'm about to call ASUS tech support to find out

I also 'might' be able to procure a chip from one of my co-workers but I won't find out till tomorrow

I believe that Asus Support can ship you a bios chip with the version needed. Try calling them to see how much they will charge you.

I just got off the phone with ASUS...there is a way of knowing which BIOS version is on the board based on the Serial #...I gave the rep my Serial # and he stated that my board was made in 11/2007 which means that it ships with the 0401 BIOS...he said that I needed the 0907 BIOS (I believe I only need the 0803 BIOS)

he said I could have ASUS cross-ship me a new board with the latest BIOS based on whether they have any of the boards in stock...if they don't have any in stock then I would have to send in my board and have them flash it which would take 10 business days total (I would only do this method as an absolute last resort)...I'll find out tomorrow if they have any in stock

Used a Conroe celly 2.0 .... Newegg.com - Intel Celeron 440 Conroe-L 2.0GHz 512KB L2 Cache LGA 775 35W Single-Core Processor - Retail

Hopefully your co-worker will come through, If that don't happen will gladly help you out. Would be great to have another Hard drive here, but not an absolute.

Re: Need: Intel 775 CPU for BIOS flash

I just went thru the same ordeal with the Maximus. I put 2 systems together with C2Q6600 and one would post and the other would not. The one that needed the bios update I put a E6850 on it and was able to flash it to the latest Bios (0907). Then it fired right up with the Q6600. Both boards were ordered at the same time, but not built the same month, one 11/2007, the other 12/2007, gues which one would not post- 11/2007.
