IPCONFIG /RELEASE
netsh interface ip set address name="Local Area Connection" static 10.0.0.10 255.0.0.0
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp

It looks to me like it releases the IP address, sets it to a static IP, and then puts it back on DHCP to get a newly assigned IP address.

My guess would be that DHCP would assign the computer the same address that it started with...

Bofinn I agree. This bat was probably created when you use an IP address on your router other than the default of 192.168.0.1. The rel resets the IP the static forces the PC adapter to 10.0.0.10 and then tells dhcp to set the local address range to the previous Dhcp range

With out the need to do a manual rel renew in command line mode using ipconfig /rel ipconfig /renew.


There are only three ranges that are not routable 10.xx.xx.xx 192.xx.xx.xx and 172.xx.xx.xx.

I use the 10.xx.xx.xx range because it's easy to remember for my old brain.
