Well I downloaded and ran all 3 programs. Looks like I saved 7% wich I believe was around 34megs so I was pretty surprised with that result. Thanks for those programs and the explanations with them PC. I felt pretty safe running these after your explanations. I was never really one to play with my Registry files either.

Worked well except for the defrag.. only said I had 8 files or so that were fragments.

That's sounds right. The optimizer generally doesn't significantly fragment the registry files. Several of the registry files are quite small, and are very unlikely to be fragmented when optimized. The biggest one is usually the software hive file, and depending on how large your OS drive is, how fragmented the drive is, how full it is, etc., 8 or so fragments in total is about right. On my laptop, for some reason possibly related to the way the drive controller works, the software hive can have 250 or so fragments after optimization. Most of my other systems are at something less than 10 fragments.

I would get very suspicious if an optimization produced a high fragmentation level. i.e., 1000s of fragments.

With the daily run it is usual to see no fragmentation at all unless you have done some uninstalls and installs of software, and then you might see 2 - 3 fragments. That's one of the reasons that running the defragger daily isn't any big deal. Usually there's nothing for it to defrag on boot, so it just flyes down the screen without doing anything.
