Linux Install guide?

Would anyone be interested if I did a linux install guide, so it would help people install pretty much any of the popular distro's of linux?

EDIT: The guide is on version 3 now, I cannot do any major Improvements Without help from Someone Who uses Linux in Some Perculiar Circumstances, i.e. on RAID, SCSI or On PPC, On 64bit systems etc.

There enough Information to get Linux On your hardrive and To understand how the Filestructure works and some useful links.

Also at the request of ABX members, I have moved it to the 1st Post of the thread.

I think that's a very excellent and worthy idea. And, we would be glad to post it in the protected members-only Reviews Forum, just the way several other Reviews and "How-To" guides have been published recently. Either I or one of the other mods can help you with that, as well as do peer reviews, convert the document to protected pdf format, etc., once you get to draft stage.

And, if you need any other help doing this, I'm sure we can provide assistance for you.

One thing that many people have and I included is that linux does things very differently and things are named very confusingly. So rather than do a walkthrough install on one particular distro I shall explain concepts and then say do a walkthrough install on something such as redhat or SUSE.

What I suggest I do is I shall write a word file first tonight. I shall encrypt the rar file and have people PM me for the password if they woluld liek to look at it.

Also i liek some of the guys that I more experienced in using linux than I, I would like them to look throuhg in and suggest addition and correction where necessary.

I thing a broad linux install guide is a great idea.

My question is why protect it? What good is password protecting the guide?

I have always wanted to install and try Linux, a general guide similar to Steveo's OS Guide would be really nice.

I think we misunderstood each other on protecting the file. The way we do it is to make a protected pdf file - that is one that can only be printed, but nothing can be copied from it. That protects the integrity of the file. Then, we post it in the Reviews and How-To Guides Forum. Only members have access to that Forum. So, only they can read it, download it or print it, but they cannot copy anything from it.

What I thought you meant was to protect your drafts before the final version was completed. Otherwise putting it in a password protected rar file is not necessary.

To be very clear, here's the procedure:

  1. Prepare your draft in Word.
  2. Email it to me, or one of the other mods, for review. Alternatively, you can post it as a password protected rar compressed Word file, and PM the password to those interested in helping to draft, edit, etc.
  3. Once it is finished in final form, you can do the same thing, either email it or post it password protected in rar compressed Word format.
  4. I will turn that into the protected pdf file, post it for you in the Reviews Forum, and then either you or I can post an announcement in the Linux Forums with a link to the Review Forums thread.

I would love one. I'm tired of the "RTFM" attitude that I get when asking questions on other forums.
