| An excellent guide but I do have one problem with regards to simple file and print sharing (XP Pro). I disable it as instructed in your guide, but I still do not require a username/password to access the computer over the network. More importantly I still have full read/write privileges as well. Is there a step missing from the guide or am I maybe missing something? |

| All user accounts must be password protected or the PC's are wide open not counting software firewalls. If all your pc's user accounts are password protected no one can map drives without knowing a user name and password of the pc's drive being mapped. If you mapped network drive(s) and checked the box "remember my password" you will not be prompted to enter one when mapping a drive. If this is the case you can delete the password from your user account within User accounts in control panel on the pc you are mapping from. You can resave the user name(s)/password(s) after testing if need be.

| Thanks for the tips. I do have 2 accounts and they both have passwords. "Map network drives" isn't something I've used since back in the days of Windows NT though that was a good suggestion. I guess I'll just have to go through all the settings a fourth time. I must have missed something somewhere. Thanks again. |

| Windows explorer. Don't ask me what I did, but it is asking for a user name and password now... BUT You can enter anything in those fields and it still lets you in with full access. ?? |

| Do you have drives or folders shared? You do not need any shared drives or folders to map a network drive using \\computer name\drive letter$. example map c drive. \\server\c$

| I did share a folder to test this setup. However when I check the permissions on the C: drive it has given everyone full read/write access. I'm not familiar with permissions...It looks like an NT type of a thing. I think I need to go and do some reading on this topic. Thanks for your help man. |
