The reason I wrote this article is I see too many people running without a backup. It doesn't cover anything geeks don't already know, just the basics really. Topics covered are: Partitioning, XP's built-in backup methods, using Acronis True Image and Norton Ghost. It also points to other backup solutions.

Very nice Tweakhound. Thanks!

Have you done any testing using Norton Ghost with the NF3 or NF4? It reports my raid drives incorrectly(i.e., only reports one of the drives) and gives an invalid backup. Not sure if the other proggie will work better.

Everything I did with Ghost was on Intel chipsets. Unfortunately being on the edge of technology often means that many backup methods fail initially because of lack of drivers (usually). I can tell you that Ghost 9 had 2 very large updates via Live Update.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Is it legal to Quote yourself? HEHE

I stumbled across this a few minutes ago....

Some of it you have to scroll down a couple of posts but they go through different versions of Ghost.

Got to admit that I'm new to your forums, but I can see many endless nights lurking in these thhreads

I followed a link from "I can't remember" about Tweakhound's article cause I need to do back-ups. I am another novice who can't stop learnin' this here stuff...guess the closest classification is "geek in training".

The rest of today is set aside with this article and attempt at my first back-up with Ghost 2003.

Just wanted to say thanks for the article and lookin' forward to more learning from the resident geeks at the ABXZone.

Hi Polock and welcome!
With Ghost 2003 be sure to run Live Update 3 times to ensure you have all the updates.

Thanks for the tip TweakHound...I won't even ask why.

Need to try again anyway cause I just downgraded my class from novice to noobie...forgot to check with anti-virus, Ad-aware and Spybot before creating my backup image. At least I got through the process...

practice, practice, practice.

Got to do some more searching for method to create a boot CD, instead of the Ghost Boot floppy. Sorta sucks going into BIOS to change the boot order just to verify the integrity of the image.

Now to practice all of the above, click my heals 3 times and ...it's after noon...
get a cool one

Look what your article started...somebody actually trying to create a backup.

I'll be honest. I really have issues with Ghost (especially v9). I hope everything works OK If Ghost doesn't work for you you might wanna try Acronis True Image. There is a link on the front page here at ABX to get a discount.
