2400+ 22x multiplier?

I bought a 2400+ Athlon xp cpu to upgrade my A7n266-vm mb.The cpu is listed as 15x multipier but when i boot up the mb sets it at 22x.This is too high to run the cpu at 133 mhz and it fails to boot.I have to set the fsb to 100 and then it will boot up.Anyone know why its doing this? TY

You must have rev. 1.03 or higher to use the faster CPUs and if you don't then you're out of luck.

Is the CPU new or used?

This is probably a bit too radical a solution but it is possible to unlock the multiplier on those CPU's here is one guide but there are others if you care to google. www.Viperlair.com - Unlocking and Overclocking the Athlon XP Seems to me if you can boot at all underclocking the FSB you may be able to run normally if you can manually adjust the multi settings. Don't know for sure if it will work just a thought.

it is a newer mb and yes cpuz reprts its at 22x multiplier.I bought the cpu off ebay. The cpu looks right, all the numbers are right and it overclocks where it should for a 2400+ 2.25ghz.the only trouble is the mb is applying 22x so it boots to 2.25@100fsb22x instead of 2.0@133 15x like it should.I think its a problem in the bios cpu micro code.I tried flashing bk to bios 01,04,07 still same thing.

so must have been remade screwy since the +2400 is supposed to run at 15X. That is an old scam I haven't seen in a while. That's why I wont buy anything like that on Ebay. Here is a chart with some pics in case it's better then the one you have.

AMD CPU Chart

I ran the XP series for years in fact have more experience with them then any other but wayyy too slow for me to deal with anymore.

Rivi, that sucks. But that is why I was asking if it was new or used. I figured someone did a bridge mod. I didn't think it was for the sake of putting out a fake CPU though. Can you still use the chip otherwise?

it was unlocked from amd, nothing wrong with it.I just didn't know. The mb freaked out and applied 22x because there was none set.I just jumpered the cpu socket to 15x and it works fine now.The reason i thought it was fake the site that had imposter info showed 2400 with certain bridges cut.Mine showed up as a fake because of that,BUT its real because its unlocked from AMD so its bridges are cut differently.Crazy stuff.oh sorry i didn't see that you wanted to know if it was old or new.its old.

Well after alot of searching i found the answer, the cpu is a FAKE.It started life as 1800+ cpu,it was modded by cutting L3 bridges 3&4 and reconnecting L3 bridge 0.This should have made it boot @ 15x 2.0 ghz 2400+ spec BUT the reconnection at L3-0 failed causing it to apply 22x.SO what i did was jumper the cpu socket to 13x.Now it runs @ 13x 2200mhz @168 fsb.I also modded the mb to unlock its bios features so i could overclock.Works great!

by the way the seller on ebay refunded all my money when i confronted them with the evidence. You can see the nonfactory cuts to L3 3&4 here in this picture.SAYS IT ALL! also the label was changed and you can see its ontop of the old label. TinyPic Video and Photo Sharing

Thank you for all the replies

Nice?! No not at all. Those guys make a living out of selling rips on ebay so when the more savvy victims actually catch them (and they are far the minority) of course they refund. Negative feedbacks are fatal to a seller on Ebay. They will go to much trouble to aviod so much as one. Caveat emptor is the way to think of Ebay
