| Does anyone know if th a7a133 will work with sometihng like a 500GB drive. I just picked up a Seagate ST3500641A for $150 and I'd like to make sure I can use this with my system. Otherwise I may have to pick up an ATA card that will recognize it. |

| The bios may not see it as a 500GB but if your using xp with atleast SP1 it will see the 500GB.

| And then my next question is whether it will be used as PIO or properly as UDMA. I've seen where the a7a133 could not correctly communicate with some 200GB drives. Has anyone else seen this? |

| Indeed the drive is being forced to PIO mode. I have the ALi IDE mode utility, but I have to run it each time the system starts. How can I force my system to always use UDMA modes for this drive? |

| In the bios there should be a list of items you can change. just hit enter over the name of your drive in the bios and you should get a menu.

| Yep, gone through that. In fact, when the system boots, the BIOS shows the drive as being UDMA5. It is in Windows where the problem seems to be occurring. It drops to PIO only mode. I've even added the 48-bit support patch for drives over 137GB and that has not helped. I know it's not the drive because I borrowed a 200GB drive from someone else and that drive also dropped to PIO mode. My 60GB drive works beautifully, but alas she is getting full. |
