| A7N8X deluxe problem Here's the story.... I've been running the exact same configuration for almost 2 years without a problem. One day I notice my clock is losing time when it is turned off. I figure it is just a battery and ignore it for a couple weeks since I use an atomic clock sync program that fixes my clock a few minutes after I boot up. About a week ago the computer starts locking up when I try to boot it up and I have to restart it once or twice before it comes up. Now everyday it seems to require more and more restarts before it boots. I finally bought a new battery but it didn't fix the boot up problem (it did fix the clock). It always locks up while loading the bios. Usually the first 2 or 3 times I try to boot up I only get a black screen and no beeps of any kind. Then after a few more reboot attempts it starts giving me the post beep and I see the bios loading on the screen until it freezes. After a couple more reboots it gets passed the first bios screen and tries to load grub but it freezes before getting to the boot loader screen. Finally after at least 12 reboots it starts loading my OS and it runs fine all day long. I tried pulling out my ram, my hard drive, and anything I could to see if one of them is causing the problem. If you boot with out ram you should get some kind of error message from the board but I didn't. It just froze up like it always does. To me it sounds like something with the bios since I only have a problem during boot up. Anybody have any ideas on what else might be wrong? Any possible fixes besides upgrading? ![]()

| Have you tried a new/different power supply? But a sign of corrupted BIOS could mean a bad mobo, though.

| I had a series of startup problems with my A7N8X board. After a while I noticed that playing with vid card stopped problems for a while only to return. Finally my card went dead. Since I replaced the card I have not had one ounce of problems. At first it sounded like bios problems I flashed and reflashed, followed a string of recommendations. But as I said, since I have replaced the card everything is fine.

| It does appear to be related to the graphics card. I tried 2 other cards and it booted up right away each time. I put the old card back in and had all kinds of problems booting it up again. I was about to buy a new mobo, thanks Tapir. Now I know I can wait till the X2's come out before I upgrade ![]()

| Much obliged ![]() I have looked at many threads on problems with this board and am kind of convinced that the problems are with the video card. A friend of mine had an nvidia board and he pulled out all his hairs and not the video card. When he did so he went looking for his hair However I would not throw away the vid card yet. I am also looking at testing mine on another board with the "original" drivers. Sort of thinking that the update drivers do not bode well for some of these cards. Of course I am talking here about my "nvidia" card. Same thing could be applying to other brands.

| Well at least in my case, the problem occurs before the OS loads so the drivers I use are not important.
