Exclamation Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rebooting Randomly-Help

I noticed there was a pretty big community here so I figure maybe you smart folks out there could help me out.

About a week ago my system all of a sudden shutdown while playing Day of Defeat- (Mod of Counter-Strike). Well my temp was around 58C on the CPU so I figured it just needed to cool off for a while. Later the same night it did it again. So I pulled my tornado fan off my fan controller and let it run on full blast. This fixed the problem for a day or 2. Now after that when ever I loaded up the CPU it would crash after about 2 minutes of time whether it was on load or not. Seeing that the LEDS on my PS were flickering I bought a 500Watt Aspire PS to test and see if that was the problem. My system wouldn't even boot up with the new PS until after the 7th try- with everything plugged in correctly. My computer stayed on for over 8 hours. It even seemed faster. I thought wow its fixed. (I previously had a 400W Raidmax PS). WRONG! My system shuts off after a couple minutes of running MEM-TEST in DOS mode no matter which stick I put in or if I only put one in. It can boot to windows but I don't know what to do next. I doubt both of my ram sticks are bad. Any Suggestions Could my precious MB have bitten the dust? ? Please Help me.

Josh

My computer recognizes my memory and has for over 6months without any problems at the current-old voltage that i have been using. I have been getting memory / access errors. The fact that my system resets with both sticks in any of the 2 slots when I run memtest makes me believe the board is bad. Anyone else have similar problems? I am gonna start the RMA process on this board....

The alcohol you buy at the drug store is okay. Also go to the arctic silver site and follow their instructions. You won't go wrong. Hope this solves your problem. Going to rest now.

I think your HSF may have become too dirty (dust build-up, very typical for aircooling), preventing air from cooling the CPU efficiently. So like the previous user said, a HSF and CPU clean up/reseating will most likely fix the problem.

Thanks guys I will try what you guys said bofinn,Tapir, and JCniest5. The thing is I completely cleaned everything off 2 days ago the day after I started having this problem. Maybe its not seated just perfect- who knows at this rate. My HSF is brand new and keeps the temp well within a good range. I will reply ASAP to see if it worked.

Hey I think I figured it out- I downloaded PerformanceTest 5.0 build 1029 and ran all the tests All the tests passed (Motherboard, RAM, HD, Video Card, etc.) except one my CPU. Everytime I ran a test on the CPU my system would restart. I got my ram to test fine and I am almost 100% sure its the cpu. It must be on its last leg I think. I am going to go to Fry's Electronics to pick up a new CPU. My system would reset especially under load so I think that really gives me an indicator its the cpu and the fact that my resets were also random shows that it had to be an integral part of the system. I updated my bios to 1013 and I am gonna do a fresh install (bc bios 1013 requires it) of XP pro and put in a new proc. Any suggestions on the proc?

Thanks man- I am gonna load XP pro tonight after class. I bought a Sempron 2500+ to test it out and if it works then I KNOW its the CPU. I am definetly get a Barton after reading about Semprons and how they pretty much an old Thunderbird in so many ways. Bartons run HOT though which kinda stinks compared to this sempron. I was shocked to see it hang around 30C-35C in my bios.

If you haven't seen this yet, download Mr. Steveo's OS install guide:

Operating System / Software Installation Guide

even if you installed XP already there are many good post install tips to use... it's not just for intel either.
