| Asus A7N8X-Deluxe trouble Hello to all, My apologies for barely crashing on your boards and already begging for help without ceremony Without further delay, here is my problem ^_^ Back in December 2003, I have bought an upgrade for my computer, namely an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe Motherboard, an AMD Althon XP 2800+ Barton and a single bar of XMS Corsair Ram 256mb PC 3200. After mounting the component onto the casing, I try to power-up my new computer, excitedly for te new possibilities of gaming. What happens is simply beyond my understanding: the computer powers up for like 2-4 seconds then automatically shuts down. No matter how many retries, I cannot get access to the BIOS as it simply shuts down. Now I'm thinking that I am in big trouble. Either the RAM, CPU or Mobo is damaged, malfunctionning or something of the greatest catastrophy that has ever happened in my life. If the Cpu was not working then the PC wouldn't power-up at all wouldn't it? So the Barton should be safe from damage. If the Mobo wasn't working either then there would be no boot-up. So it can't be the Asus. What about the Ram? If the ram wasn't working, then the PC wouldn't shut down >_<. As time wore down, I grew tired of trying to fix my mistakes and decided to put up the whole thing on the shelves and think of a solution in the meantime. Now one year later, I noticed all the good games and unable to play them. Without sufficient funds I am unable to acquire a less troublesome upgrade and now must face the errors of the past Can anyone please help me? Thanks in advance ^_^ P.S: does anyone have a suggestion of a low-cost heatsink/fan for the CPU? My brother managed to damage the old one >_< |

| Assemble it outside the case. You may have a short. Try with another hard drive.

| Also clear the bios before you start it again. Set bios to default. You may want to find out why. So try each thing one by one.

| Okay as you have internet access go to the asus page for this board and click on download, the new page will give you the manual. Download it and follow the instruction. I am thinking that maybe you do not have the manual. I would still start by looking for shortages. You enter bios by pressing "del" key as post reads memory.

| Could it be possible that the problem is the Power Supply is the root of the problem? I just noticed that I have a PSU of 200 Watts. What is the required for a mobo such as the Asus A7n8X-Deluxe? |

| I would go with at least 350W, but I dont think that is your problem. Make sure your bios is set to default, take the board out of the case and try different combinations, it sounds like there is either a short or some of the setting in the bios may be wrong, you may be overclocked way to high by accident. Either way, definetley consider upgradeing your power supply.

| Whatever the outcome I would change to psu to 350-450w.

| Update of the problem: I sent in an email to Asus with a copy of this post and I followed their directions. My bad on the misinformation, I have a PSU of 300 Watts, which according ot the User's Manual is the minimum recommended. I took out every piece on the MB. I tested them individually. A first, my trial went to the Stick of RAM. I took it out then booted the Mobo with only the CPU, no hard drives attached. What I get is a beginning of the Vocal Error (which is nice btw) : System Failure, Mem.... The the message stops abruptly as the PC shuts down. Suspicious I keep on with my batter of tests. Next is the RAM installed but no CPU, no hard drives. no video card. The MB boots up and I get the Vocal Error Message fully "No CPU Installed" in a loop as described in the email and User Manual. I leave the system on for like 5-10min and it doesn't shut down. So my guess is that the CPU was the culprit and defective. At the moment I cannot try out the cpu on another Mobo so I am left with no alternative to replace it. What are you guys' thoughts? Should I replace the CPU? If yes, then what would you recommend for this MB? |

| I'm guessing that you have 2 computers....if the otherone is compatible you can try to use the other cpu in the failing computer so see if it actually iss the cpu,,,,but i highly doubt it. (its a barton if i read correctly) I had a few problems with these mobos and they can be a pain in the ****. do you et any beeps at boot up besides the vocal errors? Now the first problem i made for myself seemed very similar to yours but I found out that I had damaged a small tiny frigin capacitor or something.....soo stupidly tiny...there are many of them around the cpu socket and scattered around the board...one small nudge and you;ve screwed the board, unless you have a small solder n a magnifiying glass you wont be able to repair it. iI damaged it when I was putting in my cpu heatsink n fan. Another of these is where on my tower the power switch was faulty....just one of the defects that occurs now n again in the odd tower, and it was doing the same thing...booting up then turning off again after a few secs. at the mo i'm using the reset switch to turn my computer on....damaged wire in the power switch posibly. You could always give that a shot. but one thing to remember when building a comp....if it starts becoming a struggle to get something in....stop n try it again....one slip up n u'll most liekly damage ur board. there a ffew other things that I can add, but i'm late for work now so i'll add it later

| I still think you need to take the motherboard out of the case and set it on some cardboard. reset the bios by unplugging the pc and shorting the jumper. leave all usb pins disconnected and remove all ide / sata cables from the board.

| Update on the problem. I have bought a brandnew Athlon 3000+ XP Barton thinking that it was the problem. Found out that the problem is still the same. I can't boot the mobo past 2-3 secs and it shuts down on me. I took out the mobo out of the case. Cleared the CMOS and booted it from there. Still the same problem. Can anyone help me out? I'm getting desperate. |

| Try replacing vid card, memory, and hard drive. One at a time. Also recheck the the mounting of the cpu. You may have a damaged bios but try to exhaust all advice given.
