Asus A7N8X Help!

I've had my Asus A7N8X Deluxe system since last week and it's still not perfectly up and running! I've been having these

problems:

1) Data/Registry corruption upon boot, especially after installing something major such as Norton AV 2003 Pro.
2) One of the "Motherboard resources" in System devices under Device Manger has a yellow exclamation mark.

To fix the data corruption I set my raid drives to UDMA 1, which fixes it but of course decreases the raid performance greatly. I heard the best way to setup an A7N8X board is to do the following:

1. Install XP Pro SP1 (Slipstream)
2. Install NIC drivers
3. Install Updates in windows update (First Critical updates, Reboot, then Windows updates, Reboot - don't install the drivers updates yet)
4. Install Direct X 9, Reboot
5. Install Nforce Drivers v2.03, Reboot
6. Install Graphics drivers, Reboot
7. Install rest of your hardware, Rebooting after each
8. Install rest of programs

I did all of the steps BUT when I was installing the critical updates in the middle the computer automatically rebooted (Guessing it crashed) then when it got back into windows it said that the registry had been corrupt but windows was able to repair the corruption. Then I installed the rest of critical updates and followed all the steps above. Once I got to step #5 where you install the Nforce drivers, I rebooted and it said system was corrupted and to insert the XP CD so that I could repair it! Once I repaired I could finally log back into windows but then the USB devices went dead! I plugged in a PS/2 mouse and went to device manager and found out that the PCI to USB controller thing had a yellow exclamation mark. I uninstalled then rebooted, and thankfully the USB devices were working again. Went back to device manager and the Motherboard resources had a yellow exclamation mark so I uninstalled, rebooted and windows automatically reinstalled it with out an exclamation mark. Anything I did wrong? BTW, when installing the 2.03’s I installed the IDE SW, was I suppose to or not? Maybe those are causing the corruption issue with my raid. Also, if I go to device manager and right click the Sil raid controller and click properties, drivers then update drivers and select the .28’s and set it to show all of the drivers, there is an Asus Sil driver! I installed the “hidden” drivers but still got corruption I think. Maybe that is why some people are experiencing corruption while others are not! Could stripe size affect corruption? I am currently using the Uber 1002A1 SATA-Enchanced ones.
Would be grateful for any feedback
Thanks a lot,
~Bloop

P.S. There are so many settings to try but I don’t have time. Such as trying the Uber 1002A1 Sata Enchanced or official 1002A with 16k or 32k cache, and then using the hidden Asus Sil drivers or the regular ones! Wish I could return this board but the 15% restocking fee is killing me! *Update* I just found out if you take out the usb keyboard or change it to PS/2 then the yellow exclamation mark for "Motherboard resources" disapears! Too bad my keyboard is usb only ( I'm going to try disabling USB legacy support for mouse/keyboard in the bios and to connect the keyboard irectly to the mobo instead of through the linksys USB hub. I"ll let you guys know of the results later on tomarrow. Maybe the USB to PCI controller went out due to the
USB mobo. Also, could it be possible that the red SATA cables that the mobo came with could be causing the corruption? I might swap cables with the ones that came with my SIIG's.

hey, I dont' know what kinda PS your antec case there gives you or which one you have, but I had a similar problem with my girlfriends where it would reboot whenever it feels like and have weird errors as you, and I discovered it was because I had a faulty PS...I replaced that and did a clean reinstall and she was on her merry way...hope that helps you.

Talking

Go, no run to your local computer/best buy/circuit city store or whoever, and get an adapter to change your keyboard from USB to PS/2.

I have accumulated adapters to change PS/2 to serial connection, PS/2 to USB, USB to PS/2, and I don't know what else. They only cost a $1 or two. I got most of mine with new keyboards, aftermarket mouse/mice

I also have an Antec True430 PSU, and I am running 2ea, 80mm exhaust fans (plus PS fans), 6ea 30mm HDD intake cooling fans, 1ea Volcano 6Cu+ for the CPU, 1ea 40mm fan on the North bridge, and one 120mm fan in the case side blowing directly on the MB in the area of the South Bridge. Plus the CPU and DDR is o/c'd. I have never had a hint of a power supply problem. Several times I have checked the power output under load with a digital multimeter, and the values are always good. To get me to buy something other than an Antec PS someone is going to have to come up with w\something really outstanding.

My only problem is with Win Me. it will not restart when this option is selected from the close menu, but it will restart when software is changed/installed. But this will change as I am learning how to use Linux.
