"Chances are, if you are still rocking a Socket A system, you would have been tempted by the ever lowering price of a Athlon 64. However, at the same time, the fact that you haven’t already sprung on a new system means that there is a factor that is stopping you; this is most likely to be that wonderful object known as cash. But the question you should ask yourself is, will you really see much of a difference between your high end socket-A system and a low end 939 or 754 setup? In the real world or for you gamer types “RL”, the answer is "no". Those big, colorful graphs from 3d Mark 2005 might say otherwise, but which ordinary human being, that doesn’t own a license for the popular fraps program, will actually notice the ten FPS or so difference during an intense gaming session."

Incredibly I'm still running my old Socket A rig with a Nforce2 based chipset! I was lucky enough to grab a Barton based Semprom processor at a good price before they disappeared completely. Still using the onboard video as well, which is good enough for what I use it for.

I have one I gave to my brother a while back he pretty much trashed. I think I may be able to breath life back into it though. Mom wants her own machine. The multiple user thing I have told her was the source of most of her problems. It's a SOYO Dragon board + XP1700 and I'm pretty sure it has a VIA chipset. It would be a fine Ebay/Email machine.

I still have a board lying aroud somewhere which I never really used. Dont remember which brand/model or what features but I think it was a good un.

Hmm, actually I have a lot of parts lying around here, need to clean this place up.

My kids' Socket A box (see sig) is still running strong. No need to upgrade that yet.

520W Quad-Fan PSU
Iwill KK266-R Motherboard - MODDED
1.5GB ECC Micron full-height PC-133 RAM
120GB 8MB cache HDD (Western Digital)
Ti5200 128MB Video Card
Creative Audigy2 ZS Sound Card
Samsung Dual-Layer DVD Burner
Yamaha 20X CD-RW

Lots of fans, really loud, really fast computer. Did a CPU volt mod, -12AWG wire mod for increased 5V, added more and also upgraded the existing capacitors to 5V and CPU voltage rails. CPU rail alone went from just 5 1500uf to 8x3300uf+ 1 1500uf. There was a thread long ago on amdmb.com forums about this board not sucessfully running the Athlon XP, I had the same problem, but it works perfectly fine for me now after the mods. Specs nearly maxed out for Socket A and PC133 and it's faster than many DDR systems. I may get a faster video card when I get my hands on one.

Web PC
Athlon 1200
450W PSU
1GB PC133 RAM
30GB HDD
GeForceTi4200 Video Card
Ethernet card for internet

I use the web PC the most because it runs quieter, cooler, less power, and has not much on the HDD, and can easily be repaired, while all the goods on my main PC are intact. Saves my older Main PC from wear and tear from hours of use on the web, and keeps it free from malware and crap. If my Web PC gets a problem, it can be fixed easier and without harm to my better PC. The Web PC is quieter and cost almost nothing to build since most parts were free, or I already had them, just had to get case+PSU

Very solid boards. I have two in use by my children. And two stored away waiting for someone to appear with the processors. Planning to set up for two of my grand children who are entering high school.

Thanks to gigabyte and a bunch of really crappy voltage regulators I have a couple socket A chips here and no Mobo's ...I guess I could ebay something up, but it's simply cheaper to build new unless I find a mobo for free..

I have an A1400AMS3C and an AXDA1800DLT3C I also have a 2000 sempron around here somewhere but couldn't find it this morning.
