Burning question about Memory speed..??!!!

hello, I just read a review about the A7N8X running with a XP3000+ and they stated and showed in benchmarks that the rig runs FASTER with the memory at 333mhz then at 400mhz...now taking this at face value, I am running a 2400+(266fsb), does this mean I will get faster performance running my memory at 266mhz, in sync with the fsb, then at 400mhz???

here is the url to the review: http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2...a/index.x?pg=5

in the 2nd paragraph...thanks to all that can give me some feedback..

The reason that the 333MHz FSB runs faster has to do with memory latencies. The DDR400 memory technology allows for higher bandwidth, but at the cost of higher latency, thus slowing things down.

Running at DDR400 will be faster then DDR266, if your memory can handle it.

The best way though, is to test it as sometimes each case is different.

i dont know for sure but y dont you fiddle around if you have some time, play with 266mhz, 333 and 400ddr speeds with sandra mem banwidth and you will get an answer, also i dont know if that story running in sinc holds true with every cpu and ram

To clarify, the first and second lot of them are rumoured to have been unlocked. But they aren't supposed to be unlocked.

A lot number refers to the assembly line they came off and when they came off it. So, lot 1 comes before lot 2.

It would be written on the CPU. It is in all those fancy numbers that are printed on the CPU. I haven't a clue how to interpret them perhaps someone can pickup the ball here.

The nForce2 performs best with the memory and FSB running at the same speed. So basically set your BIOS to run 100% of the FSB speed. The test in that and many other reviews are running the memory higher than the FSB. This doesn't help on an Athlon system since the highest an Athlon based system can really take advantage of is DDR333 or 2700 mb(s) bandwidth.

BUT... if you keep the mem in 'sync' with the FSB and can run say 200FSB or that times 2 for DDR400 you will see an increase in performance. Basically it always best to keep the memory and FSB in 'sync' rather than 'async' on most any Athlon system.
