Is DDR400 Required for Dual Channel Support??

Hello All,

I was just given a new A7N8X Deluxe for work I did on a friends PC which included setting up his A7N8X-D.

So I'm reading my manual and on page ix in the Specifications Summary/Memory it states:

Memory:

3x 184 pin DDR DIMM Sockets

Max. 3 GB unbuffered PC3200/2700/2100/1600 non-ECC DDR RAM memory.

Dual-Channel DDR400 Support

Does this mean that DDR400 RAM is required for dual channel support?

Don't think so. I think it means that it will run dual channel with DDR400 and lower ram.

I've got DDR266 in mine and it works fine. Just make sure you have 2 dimms and they are in the right slots.

I second that I have the twinx 3200LL from corsair they're 400Mhz and I get higher memory bandwith with sandra test by running them in synch with CPU @333mhz
sandra @400 2257/2270
sandra @333 2556/2426
yep just waisted my money should've gotten the 2700's

Thanks for the heads up on the memory guys...

Why do you suppose the memory band width is higher with syncronious operation?

You would think a higher memory bus speed would only serve to increase the BW.

Not that I'm complaining for I was wondering if I should upgrade my 2x512Mb Samsung 2700DDR sticks to the Corsair 3200 TWN. Guess I (you guys) just saved $600 cdn.

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

Yeah, most of us Epox owners (sorry, XJ ) can reach 200fsb with ease. BTW: Please run you Sandra benches with unbuffered benchmarks. You might see a difference. Even though your RAM is unbuffered the Sandra benches you are running are buffered so Windows is controlling some of the results you are seeing which means that when you hit real-life performance your RAM will not reflect what the benches are reflecting. I only reach 1600 unbuffered with my DDR400 at 200fsb. My Intel Granite Bay is at 1800, considering the Intel dual DDR boards should give more for the memory I think my 1600 score is very good for a nForce2 board.

Not a problem if you overclock and maintain 1:1 MEM:FSB

BTW, my buffered scores are 3138/2983 @ 204Mhz with 7-3-3-2 timings. I'm hoping I can eventually reach 215+ with this board.

Edit: typo
