I found a 939 motherboard worth waiting for!

I want to upgrade before the end of the year for HL2. I have been researching hardware for months, and this is what I have come up with. I have a $2500 budget.

AMD64 +3500
Abit AN8 Fatal1ty
Dual DDR400 2x512mb
ATI PCI-E X800 512mb All In Wonder
Audigy2 ZS
2x WD 74mb 10krpm Raptors in RAID 0
Cooler Master TAC-T01 WaveMaster (black)
Antec 480W NeoPower PSU

August 15th at Quakecon Abit is going to give a press release about the Fatal1ty line of motherboards and should announce the first 939 socket board with PCI-Express. HardOCP will have a booth there and will be writing articles on the motherboards.

I expect the Abit AN8 to be available by the end of September and the video card available soon after that.

Does anyone have any suggestions about this rig or have any other information about this soon to be released motherboard? I may want to overclock in the future so I'm not sure about the memory. If the AN8 allows for both DDR1 and DDR2 then I might just get some DDR500 and try to OC the +3500 and the graphics card... Anyone know if the An8 will be compatible with both types of memory?

I realize PCI-E isn't faster than AGP, but I want it for future upgradability so that I only have to upgrade video cards in the next 2 years....

Any info would be greatly appreciated..

Interesting, I thought AMD was totally gooing to skip DDR2 memory and go straight to DDR3. The reason was due to the extremely high latencies of DDR2.

Anyways, that does look like a very nice system. I hope you enjoy it.

The Athlon 64 won't support DDR2 for a while (if at all, DDR3 may be next as cmay119 said). If that particular motherboard will support DDR2 it will be using a memory controller in the northbridge chip, which will in all likelihood perform worse than DDR connected directly to the CPU.

So, I would look around for a really good DDR memory instead of DDR2, at least for Athlon 64 systems.

Purple Lizzard do you know where I can find full specs for this board? Are you sure this is the AN8? I think I remember that picture from a show in Japan but I'm not sure... I think it was at Xbitlabs.

This pic came from AnandTech. If you look at the area under the flash you can see "AN8"
I haven't seen any specs on this mbo yet.

Personally I like the Asus A8N-E but no specs there either.
