| L7vmm no post. I have a pc that will not post. No beeps no display no sign of a bios. It was given to me so I don't know the history. Where do I start? Nothing looks fried, the power supply fan, cpu fan, cdrw, floppy and hard disks all seem to power up. It has onboard graphics chip and a gf4 440mx agp. same results both adapters. CMOS battery? cpu? (it looks okay, not burned or any sign of overheating.) Ram? Any ideas at all would help. TIA

| unplug all drives, cd's, sound cards, etc... unplug computer and then reset the BIOS by using the jumper. boot up with the bare minimum: cpu, 1 stick of memory, and onboard video.

| Thanks for the reply. I've done what you said. Nothing. Still just a blank display that shows no sign of bios activity. I asked the previous owner what happened to it. Apparently their 14 yr old child, attempted to add a ram stick. When the pc was turned back on, nothing happened, the slight smell of smoke and thats all they knew. I took the heatsink off and the cpu appears ok, no burns or discolorations. I can see nothing that looks burned. I quess I could try a new cpu and motherboard if nessasary, I wonder if it's worth it? just noticed you sig. I tried that too, no avail.

| Really? Even if everything seems to power up? I'll have to look around for a spare. Thanks for the advice.

| Do you have another board you can test the chip on? If not, you can get a new socket A board for about $40.00. I did that for a friend of mine, now he has a fairly decent box (oh, he had to get new ram about $40) so for about $80, he has a spare box.
