Need Help Guys, have Major problem

Guys i really need your help, i been working with computers for over 5 years now i built many but this problem got me by the throat.

It all started one morning, i turned one computer on and my windows wont load up, just stops after the windows boot screen and goes black, so im like ok ill format no big deal, i go to reboot and i dont get video. So i go ahead reset my bios and it reboots with undercklocked speeds and fail safe settings, so i go ahead put settings back to normal and the video wont come on. The only way to get it to come up again is to disconnect power for a few sec and turn it back on, but then it goes back to the fail safe settings and if i restart it dies againa nd i have to disconnect the power again. So i was like ok maybe its the board or a bios battery is low. I go to turn on my other pc and ITS EXACT SAME PROBLEM, i mean EXACT SAME!!! what are the chances of both computers that worked a day ago to have exact same problem the next day. Now the only thing i can think of that could have caused this is i ran windows updates on both computers the night before, but my third pc did not get any problems and why would windows updates cause my pc to lose video on boot up?

Here are the specs of both problem pc's
PC1
Mobo: Abit KT7A-Raid (older sd ram board)
CPU: Athlon XP1800+ Palamino core
Ram: 1GB of Crucial PC133
Video Card:Geforce 4 Ti4200 (but i tried 3 other ones same problem)

PC2
Mobo Abit NF7-S (Nforce 3 chipset i think)
CPU Athlon xp1700+ Watercooled running 2.3ghz
Ram 1gb Corsair Pc3700
Video Ati 9800Pro Hercules

PC3 (the one that did not get affected)
Mobo Some MSI nforce 4 board
CPU AMD 64 3000 running @ 2.6ghz
Ram 1gb Corsair PC4300 (i think its the right model)
Video eVGA 6800 Ultra AGP

If anyone has any idea whats going on plz plz plz tell me what u think, and even if u are not sure just throw some ideas at me. Thankyou

in Windows Update did you just install the normal security patches or did you install some hardware driver updates?

Just now i booted one of the pc's with fail safe in bios, went to install windows, formatted it was copying files from cd to the hard drive then it rebooted to go to next spet of installing and no video, but im looking at cdrom drive and the hard drive lights and it seems like the windows are installing, but i get no video after each reboot, unless i unplug the power cord and plug it back in and bios settings are not saving

it seems like an impossible coincidence, but I would replace both bios batteries. They are cheap and you probably are due for them anyways.

You've had some kind of power surge and both power supplies are cactus.
Try replacing a power supply, if you have a spare, in one of them or get one of them tested.

[edit] oh, i didnt see that they're working now... well that is weird , hmmm
Well in situations like these I believe it must operater error!
