What memory Settings for A7N8X-E Deluxe?

Just setting up a A7N8X-E Deluxe just wondering about memory settings

2 options

Auto – It sets the memory to cas 2.5 and 166MHz which is same as CPU is running at a Athlon XP 2500+

SPD – It sets the memory to cas 3 and 200MHz which is what the memory is. Its crucial DDR 400 PC3200

In the bios it states set it to Auto for best performance, but whats better a lower cas, or a higher MHz?

Download O/c Bible (click on my sign) and you can run two programs for RAM optiming.
Of course you must read instructions first.
Anyway you can post questions if you have at supported thread.
You have to download a program such as CPUz click here.
Lower timings e.g. 2.5-3-3-6 give better overall performance than relaxed timings e.g. 3-4-4-8.
Prefer to set manual timings.
Do not run your RAM at higher speed than FSB.
I mean your CPU runs at 11X166 normally so avoid run at 11X200.
The reason is why nForce2 was a "strange" chipset and if RAM runs at higher speed than current FSB RAM performance becomes lower than 1:1.
This is called RAM/FSB ratio and if you set it 1:1 means that RAM speed and FSB are the same.
I hope to help you.

P.S.
If you want more info for o/c click here (a lot of links).
Look here Sierra's thread for o/c guide for SocketA CPUs like yours.

Talking

I 've 2x A7N8X-E dlx and 1x A7N8X-X running, all with Barton 2500+

Make sure you have a good, heavy PSU to start of with.

Download 'Everest Home Edition' (from Lavalys)
Install and run it; in the Menu under Computer you 'll find the item Overclock.
That gives you actual memory timings settings and also the SPD reading(s) of each stick in your system.

Here you can see the guaranteed capabilities of the memory.

I 'm running my systems near, at and over 200MHz FSB with memory speed at 1:1 (being named 100%) with FSB, so my memory runs at 195 on the 1st, 200 on the 2nd and 205 MHz on the 3rd machine ...

I use the SPD setting for 200MHz (being 2.5-4-4-8) and run stable, with Vdimm at 2.7 or 2.8V and a higher than default Vcore to get that stability ...

In Everest H.E., you can see SPD solely too, under Motherboard (in the menu).
At the bottom of the menu you also have some Memory Benchmarking tools with comparison charts !

Good luck
