$140 US for a NIB P4C 2.4ghz

Would it be worth it? I have an IC7 I could use it on. It also has 30 caps so it should be a good overclocker.

I'd advise to wait until the Intel price drops come (when Conroe is released). The guy I know that works in an Intel shop says Intel will be almost giving the Presslers and Smithfield processors away, come April 23rd.

Why I'm sticking to this 3 year-old 2.4B processor. Come May the PCI-E $350 range v/c prices should come down, making a dual core rig very tempting to build (and more affordable).

If you're planning to upgrade to Windows Vista read this, too:

In addition, these PCs would need the following combination of essential PC hardware for good overall Windows Vista performance:

• CPU — PC systems should have a modern CPU. [NOTE: P4 HT 600 Series with Extended Memory 64]

• RAM — PC systems should have 512MB of memory or more.

• GPU — PC systems should have a graphics processor that will support Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM).

So it won't be a "best bang for the buck" if you're planning to use Vista on that rig.

The P4C's aren't widely available anymore. They were the last "good" P4 before prescHOT came out.

Windows Vista won't be used. I don't even plan on using it in my main computer for a few years. I hope I don't ever have to use it.

This system will probably be used as a guest computer, for storage and possibly a folder and/or LAN party server.

thats a good chip if you allready have the motherboard, otherwise the Intel 805 is dirt cheap for a dual core 2.66GHz chip!

I would say go for it if you have the spare parts for the computer otherwise if you have to buy hardware, then I would skip it.
