Any upcoming dual core price cuts coming?

I purchased my E6600 about a year ago, and about a month after I purchased it, there was a major price decrease. Ouch. I am building a PC for work with an Asus P5B motherboard to replace my ancient but very reliable 1Ghz PIII. The PC is used for multitasking internet, Paint Shop Pro, Office 2002, 16 bit business system interface software, and other general office stuff including burning files to a DVD. I am looking at getting a small Allendale or Conroe processor to do the job, but if there is going to be a widespread price drop in the near future, I can hold off for something better like a faster dual core. Does anybody here know of any upcoming price decreases? The E6600 has been very steady for a very long time.

I dont think there is any price drops coming since the prices are real low aleady. Once the New E8000 series comes out there mite be a little drop.

Does the P5B support the Quad Q6600? You might find that this will suit your work needs for a very long time especially with 2 or 4 GB of RAM. I have the P5B-E and it supports the newer 45nm CPUs like the E8400. This is essentially the E6850 with more L2 cache at a lower price point. I'd recommend this CPU if your board supports it!

What i would do is get a better cpu for your machine and put that E6600 in your work machine.

The P5B does support quads just needs to have updated bios.

Re: Any upcoming dual core price cuts coming?

I use my Bad Axe for gaming, and I have been very tempted to jump to a Quad just for future proofing my machine a little, though my understanding is that the Quad will not benefit my gaming frame rates. An E4600 @ 2.4Ghz is presently about $80.00 cheaper than a E6600. I am afraid that if I buy the E4600 now, a few weeks later the faster processors would drop under $200.00. The CPU I would really love to grab for my Bad Axe would be the E6700 if it dropped to under $300.00. I might jump for the Q6600 as I probably will kick myself again a few months down the road.

Re: Any upcoming dual core price cuts coming?

I'd say the best price for a chip is either the 8400 or the 6750.

The E8400 @ $189 almost made me jump.
