Question anyone run a 1333mhz fsb cpu on a p5w dh deluxe ?

would this work by the cpu scaling down to 1066mhz fsb ?
not boot/work at all ?
or
work ?

{the mb supports 1066mhz fsb - not 1333mhz, not interested in overclocking}

Your board needs to have bios 2104 in order to work with 1333fsb cpus. Heres the cpu support page.

i'm back, as i might be getting closer to getting one.. maybe!! so your last comment says that if i get a 1333fsb one with the latest bios it should run at 1333 and 3.0ghz standard ? (we know the mb will run it, as per the asus site - asking only because there's no way i can take back a cpu i guess, and am tossing up between the qx6800 vs qx6850)

Re: anyone run a 1333mhz fsb cpu on a p5w dh deluxe ?

well well well...
just tried the e6850 and it installs fine, bios all good.. but something about it is not right i think it must be the fsb for some reason...

the bios shows it as running at 3ghz and 1333mhz fsb, which it should. so that's fine. using latest bios, v2302 (already v2301 supported the e6850)

whilst i still had my old xp sp2 installed i changed the cpu... windows loaded but then started giving bsod's. fair enough, i was going to reinstall it anyway, so i proceeded... when it started to copy the xp setup files errors came up that some files (different ones) were corrupt and stuff. too many, so each time i aborted the install. did this several times. this was using my hdd to install from. so i try the xp sp2 cd, same crap. i then try win98se cd, a similar error, and 2nd time a freeze during copy.

hmmm, i then go into bios and load default settings, same deal, corrupt setup files during install attempt.... go back to bios and lower the cpu to 2.00ghz. still the same crap.

recheck all settings in bios, all ok. run a western digital diagnostic on hdd, zero errors - all ok.
remove e6850 and put back q6600. everything ok, xp installs juts fine, like it always did, off the hdd (same files)... i proceed to install xp 3 times, all fine and dandy.

so it was the cpu, but why ? the mb/bios suports it. ??????????

When you put the 1333fsb cpu in check the bios to see what speed your memory is at. You mite need to lower the ratio.

Re: anyone run a 1333mhz fsb cpu on a p5w dh deluxe ?

Xp has trouble working with 4gb of memory and will cause blue screens and restarts. So i would load windows with 2gb and once its loaded try puttin the other 2gb back in to see what happens.

Re: anyone run a 1333mhz fsb cpu on a p5w dh deluxe ?

ok, i put back the e6850 and removed 2gb, thus going back to 2gb.
it worked!! but... so ?? is this it ???

1.) can vista be installed from the hdd same as all previous windows versions could be ? (so far i used the dvd when i did try it)

2.) does current ddr2 ram have to be installed in pairs ? i always went in pairs anyway, but i remember at one stage you had to use pairs. has that changed ? could i use 3gb ? (assuming it will work ? - do you think xp will install ok with 3gb ? or does it have issues with any more then 2 ?)
also there are many people using 4gb and vista 32bit, so i'm still not sure how 4gb is the actual issue. but... ?

To run dual channel you'll need to have 2x 1gb and 2x 512mb chips for 3gb to work right, Xp works fine with 3gb. The memory doesnt have to be installed as pairs but to get the best performance and stability i would installed in pairs.

You can upgrade your xp to vista if you have the bootable dvd disc. But if it isnt a 64bit os then it wont help your memory problem. People can use 4gb with vista but if its a 32bit version it wont use or see the 4gb installed. It will read like 3.25gb or 3.5gb of memory
