Bad Axe 2 & E6600. Better CPU Worthwhile?

I went from a 3.0 Northwood last year to a Bad Axe II and an E6600. I play games mostly on my Bad Axe as my notebook is my Internet surfer. I am going to build a P965 PC for work, and will use my E6600 for that build. I do not overclock, and would love to hear suggestions as to what can I do that would make sense in upgrading my CPU as I plan on running this Bad Axe for a few years. From what I have read, the Q6600 quad has no real benefit, and the E6700 is only a jump from 2.4Ghz to 2.66 Ghz. I am running XP SP2. The Extremes are too extreme for the wallet. I do not believe that I can run the 1333 FSB on my Bad Axe 2. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Bad Axe 2 & E6600. Better CPU Worthwhile?

I say just leave it as it is unless there's a sudden software revolution and programs suddenly start receiving major performance boosts from quads. I don't plan to upgrade my Bad Axe 2 to a quad anytime soon, if ever. By the time quads do provide tangible performance boosts, there will be faster and more energy efficient quads in the market. For the time being, I think duals are the sweet spot for performance and energy efficiency (I was running my E6700 passively before summer came). Don't even bother with the E6700. The speed difference between that and the E6600 is negligible.
