Best Bang......

Any opinions on the best bang for the buck on Core two Duo's right now? It should overclock well but also be fast right out of the box.

E8400 without any doubt, assuming your mobo can handle a 1333Mhz fsb cpu.

Re: Best Bang......

I was recommended the E8400 Wolfdale ( Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - CPUs / Processors ) at one time but ended up getting a Q6600, which overclocks great for about the same price. If your looking for specifically a Core 2 Duo then take a look at the E8400 but my recommendation is a Quad.

Re: Best Bang......

Here's something completely different that has caught my eye...

A Phenom 9550 and an AMD 780G chipset Mobo.....

Tremendous, onboard expandable graphics (if you want----you can slap in an additional PCIe card and go SLI with the onboard video) but the onboard is VERY good....

All for about $250 if you shop around...and if you look hard enough----add four gigs of RAM for another $50-60 bucks

A quad core workhorse---with four gigs of RAM and Great graphics----without any of the AMD errata problems

For right at $300

I think it is totally the best bang for the buck right now.....
