boot death screen -- weird crosshatches. I have a 3-4 year old system based on an Asus P4P800-VM motherboard. It suddenly will not boot, and I'm hoping someone can give me a few clues. Here's what happens on bootup: 1. I get the Asus P4P800-VM startup screen. This would normally flash by in a second and start booting Windows XP. Instead it stays stuck on the MB startup screen. But it is not a solid page -- it's sort of crosshatched with 10 sets of white vertical stripes, 7 stripes in each set. Also there is an odd flickering horizontal crosshatch of black or blue stripes on the dark background. When in this screen, pressing the DEL to run Setup or any other key yields nothing. 2. Both CPU fan and case fan seem to be working normally. 3. Turned off, checked all cables, no change in status. 4. An earlier attempt to look at this problem yielded a normal Windows logon -- for about a minute, then a BSOD (couldn't make out what was on it) followed 2 microseconds later by the crosshatched boot splash screen. After that, I only get the Asus startup screen in crosshatch mode. Is my MB dead ? Is there a way to figure out what's wrong? Thanks....

Since the video is onboard the MB on this PC, I reseated the memory, and it now works. Great tip and really fast, thanks! Man I like this site ...... I will now followup by running memtest and just see if there's anything else I should be looking at. Thanks.... ![]()

Re: boot death screen -- weird crosshatches. Since you have your case open i would clean it out and to get all the dust out of the fans and what not. By removing the memory and putting it back in fixed your problem i wouldnt touch anything.
