Yes you can, but you'll need to flash your bios if they still come with 1001.a...

why you need to flash bios? I've used 1GHz on 1001A bios and installed windows ME no problem, just shut down problems. However when I flash the bios to 1003 it was gone.

er it recognize the CPU correctly hence it allows the installation to go through. The new bios just helped with ACPI. Not the CPU recognition

PIII 1000 not as good as I had thought, will perform most tasks at around 2/3 the time of a PIII 500 (virus scanner). had it running at 1200 for about 10 minutes before an automatic reboot occured but other than that the system rungs great.

Got mine to 1140 with no Stability problems. Booted at 1155 but Windows got a little screwy.

Try 1140MHz. Works fine for me.
