Hmm, well I'm still eeeking the most out of my Socket 478 rig. In fact just upgraded the processor for $100 to a 3.4E oc'd to 3.74.

I definitely want to go Conroe, but not at today's prices. I would be an entirely new machine since nothing I currently run would be compatible.

Maybe in 6 months...

Well it's here finally Just installed my new baby a few minutes ago (note new avatar) and so far so good With a fresh dot of AS5 the temps are only slightly cooler at idle by a couple of degrees (41c), over my trusty 'old' 3.80GHz cpu, but looks like it could be a lot cooler under load. Only had a chance to do a quick test, and looks like it stabilizes at around 49c, but will check later with a fast and furious round of Far Cry with HDR enabled. That usually sent my 570J temps up into the high 60's Running ram at 1066MHz, but for some reason CPU-Z still shows 1:2 ratio instead of 1:1 Not quite sure what that's trying to tell me, but it works fine. Sandra is showing the mem at 5818/5817 which is a lot better than the 5k was getting at 800MHz and tight timings Will try out some more benchmarks later, and possibly give those unlocked multipliers (x6-13x) a workout

Pentium4 way to go.Keep the benchies coming.I decided to see what my CPU can do for the first time.I upped the multi from x11 to x13.So that it would be at 3.4Ghz at stock fsb.Then upped the voltage to 1.55 volts.Yeah I know it's alot of voltage.Well anyway you can see what the CPU runs at.I can go higher but I don't think I really want to.But since the DQ6 can hit 490 fsb.I'm going to see if I can do that at 3.8Ghz on the CPU or at least close to that.

Thanks Rickwell and SupDawg Rickwell that's one mighty overclock there, nice job I have been busy with my benchmarks, but the short of it all is this cpu is a lot more powerful than my old 3.80Ghz was Don't have a host for any pics, but a few compares between old, and new are:-

3DMark2003=21803 (3.80Ghz) 26119 (X6800)
3DMark2005= 8632...............11578
3DMark2006= 5440................ 6484
X³............=52.6fps..............84.8fps
Comanche4=68.3fps.............137.6fps
Aquamark..=85911................147000
(All default no o/c or tweaks)

Have put my memory timings back to their original config (4-4-4-12), which is good considering that it is only PC8000, and can still run tight timings at PC8500 speeds, so Sandra mem is now up to 5933/5933 All in all am very happy with my purchase of this cpu (even though the damn thing cost more than our new stainless steel electronic controlled refridgerator)

Am looking forward to having lots of fun with it over the next few days

My friend just got an E6700 system:
Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB
2x1GB OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400
2x120GB Seagate SATA hard drive(not in RAID)
Asus P5NSLI Deluxe Nforce 4 Intel Edition
Geforce 7950GX2

He said the system was super responsive and played games real well but apparently he was having big trouble with his system from the beginning. The machine crashed 6 times at installation of WinXP before getting it to install and crashed in every game until it wasn't bootable anymore(WinXP BSOD). The machine went back to store for repair, I'll see if I can get him to bench the system .

E6700 is the best overall CPU IMO in regards to performance/price/heat/power consumption. E6700 has the best power consumption characteristics. X6800 perform well but does push a bit far to achieve higher performance.

There is a £130 premium for the E6700 over the E6600.
Both have the 2x 2MB cache, the obvious difference being stock speeds.
Do you think that little bit extra is worth the premium?

Hey guys, sorry but this might be a bit OT, or not?? Anyway I've upgraded a month ago to a Conroe system and now I'am thinking of swaping my mobo for a P5B Dlx WiFi, so is it worth going form 975x to P965? The rest of the system is pretty decent IMHO oh and BladeRunner I don't think that the extra £130 is worth 266Mhz, but then it's only my opinion, I would rather put another 2 gigs of ram in my system

Only if you are getting a chip that you will need more FSB than your board can provide ie. E6300. Otherwise I would stick with the P5W DH, its a fast board.

I don't know about anyone else, but it does seem to me. The Core 2 Duo CPUs are binned by power too, meaning higher CPUs actually run cooler. I think it only applies up to E6700 though, because X6800 does go over in terms of heat.

Well, the main reason to change the P5W DH for a P5B Dlx is that I would like to run my E6600 @ 6x400MHz rather than 9x266MHz, so the CPU would run @ 2400MHz and practicly wouldn't be OC'ed but it would run faster

Wrong on P5W DH, "its a fast board".It's probably the best overall board.But not the fastest.I wish now I would have gone that route myself.But the DQ6 at 600 fsb is the fastest.But really who cares since most of us are trying to get the best of what we have now dispite what others post.

The fastest I've seen so far. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=114600
