Conroe Users - Check-in

Now either there aren't as many users on these forums these days, there aren't many people who have moved to Conroe or people just aren't reporting back.
But I'm just not seeing as many posts from people who have made the jump to Conroe as I expected.
I didn't expect everyone to have made the jump, but I'd expected at least a few more.
Anyway - thread created for the Conroe users to "check-in".
Tell us which setup you've gone for, if you've overclocked (if so what to) and your general opinion on the platform.
For the past couple of weeks I've been running my new system:

E6600 @ 3.2Ghz
Gigabyte DS4 Motherboard
4GB (4x 1GB Geil PC6400) 1:1 4-4-4-12
7800GTX (256MB)

I could post up a whole host of benchmark results which would look impressive.
However....
Conroe just feels so damn quick.
Even running my E6600 at stock felt just so much quicker than my old system and that was a P4 640 (3.2Ghz) system.
There is just no lag, no tiny little delay - you just click things and everything happens in an instant.
My overclock is modest/mild compared to others - initially I wasn't going to overclock at all, then I decided to go to 3Ghz (as then my £220 CPU was running at the same speed as a stock CPU costing 3x as much (X6800)).
I've decided to stick to 3.2Ghz as I'm still running everything at stock voltage (voltage is the one area I don't like playing - personal opinion).

The Conroe platform is excellent.
It was quite a hard decision making the jump as I'd not so long ago moved to the Intel I955 chipset with my 640 and felt rather betrayed as there was and still is no real reason that board won't accept Conroe.
I am however pleased with the final results - this Conroe setup will be used well past the quad core CPU release, I'll look into those this time next year.

Still waiting for the nforce 590 boards to start trickling out, it's very frustrating having everything except a mobo, I'm beginning to think about selling the 7950gx2 whilst it's still worth something, G80 will be out at this rate by the time I'm up and running.

I'm still waiting too. Sometime this year I plan on upgrading. I just bought new case. Next buy is two NCQ SATA drives. After that, new PSU, after that - new mobo & CPU. My current rig was built almost two years ago, but I upgraded my CPU to a X2 3800. The chip I have is a poor overclocker. Can't even got 2100 MHz. So I am at stock. Probably upgrade in October.

Thought about doing the Conroe thing but with both Intel and AMD throwing new and faster cores at us every few months, it simply wasn't worth it. I will opt instead to hop on the quad-cores when they are released and will continue to skip one or two core releases simply so it doesn't kill my wallet.

I ordered parts last week to upgrade to Core 2 duo only to get a email back saying that the motherboard and cpu were back ordered and no date as to when they would have stock. Have not had time to check any other online stores yet.

I definitely want to go E6600, but current availability is nil, so I just have to wait. Maybe new Mobos and even the DX10 cards will come out in the meantime.

There are no E6600 avail in Canada still, unless you want to pay double what its worth. I have a board but am still waiting on chip availability. Probably another week to two weeks.

I have a shiny new case and SATA drive waiting for a new motherboard, CPU, memory, and graphics card. Have been watching the prices of E6600 CPU's and will wait for the retailers to stop marking the price up so much. I was going to go for the Bad Axe motherboard, but the reviewers at New Egg on the Asus P5B Deluxe has been good so far. I have been very happy with my P4C8000E Deluxe, and I am hoping that I will be able to find something that is just as good. I believe I will be building a Conroe PC in September as I am hoping that the supply chain fills up a little more, and more testing of Conroe compatible motherboards will be done. And feedback from others on here of course is very helpful ever since my first board, the CUSL2.
