Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Here's the manual:

http://download.intel.com/support/mo...1047103_en.pdf

The jumper related stuff is on pages 51 and 52. It looks the same as for your other board. Nothing explicitly talks about clearing cmos, but I think that if you follow the instructions for clearing passwords, on page 52, the maintenance menus that appear there (in step 7) will get you to what you want.

Regards,
-- Al

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

If the maintenance menus don't help, then I'd suggest taking the battery out and disconnecting the ac for a longer period of time. With no power, the NVRAM has to lose the stored settings sooner or later!

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Hi Thanks a Million Ctal. I got the system running again. Thanks and i promise to never again meddle with ram timings. .

But on a sidenote. In bios it show my ram as only 667 Mhz. Not 800 Mhz. But the ram is actually 800Mhz. Any ideas why so ?

Thanks again. At least i can sleep peacefully now.

Yup. If you look at the specs on page 9 of the mobo manual, it shows only DDR2-667 and slower speeds for memory. Sounds like you should be switching the memories between the two computers!

Glad you got it working.

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Hello Ctal > I checked the Bios Screen again on my system. The memory mode is shown as dual channel. Even though ive occupied only channel A slot 1 & 2. And channel B slot 1. I was told on another thread here in the forum that to run memory in dual channel you must either have 2 or 4 sticks of ram ? How is my system running dual channel with 3 chips installed as described ?

Ctal > I updated the bios for my 945gnt Mthrbrd too. After the update i think it booted on its own just once. But now when i shut down and restarted the system it doesnt boot but only holds the intel logo screen which shows BIOS Settings : F2 and under that it shows EB. But the system doesnt boot. Pressing F2 also has no effect.

It is sometimes necessary to clear cmos after a bios update. Try that as we discussed, either by removing the battery and ac power for a while, or with the jumper.

I don't know what happens when there are 3 sticks of DDR2. Anyone else?

As far as I know it will only run dual channel on a laptop.

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Hi Ctal > I tried the jumper thing. It boots at times and at times it doesnt boot. Like if i switch on and off 5 or 6 times. It boots once. What could cause erratic performance like this ? In fact i updated the bios because the system wasnt stable from start. It suddenly switches off on its own. As if the power just cut. But power is proper. The system just switches off silently. So i did this upgrade. Also when if at all it boots,, the screen is half off the monitor. Could this be because the ram is 800Mhz. You said the 945GNT was meant only for ram upto 667Mhz ? Could this be the source of the problems ? I should add that the same processor with MB and its respective graphics card was running like a dream on the earlier setup. Used to edit HD on it. It has never once failed or acted quirky. Now the same set was transplanted into a new cabinet and all this happens.

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

The ram will only run 667 but it will run. Have you tried memtest?

The only way you'll have dual channel is to run equal amount of sticks. If you want 3 gig then you could run 2 X 1g in A 1and 2 and 2 X512 in B1 and 2 for example.

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

And if it just shuts down that could be a heat issue with the cpu. Are you sure the heat sync fan is mounted properly on the cpu?

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

i think it is. I can see the fan running properly. Also the proc was never disconnected from the board when i transplanted it from the earlier cabinet. They were migrated as a set from the older cabinet into a new expensive $250 server cabinet and this is what im getting in return. Can the fan have a problem even though its running perfectly. Also the system wont boot inspite of moving the CMOS jumper to any position.
