Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Hi Ctal > Hope your doing well. I was travelling for a couple of weeks and couldnt log on. Ill still try to find the manual of the monitor it must be somewhere here. I tried many possible combinations and wasnt satisfied. Its still got that mild ghosting image kinda effect around text. The refresh rate is however set to 60 Hz only. Hmmm...ok ill try posting a seperate thread on this one if i dont seem to get it sorted out. It took Intel a month to replace the board.

Ctal > CPUZ shows that my memory is 400Mhz while its actually 800Mhz. Is this normal ? It also mentions running in dual channel. Does this mean 400 Mhz per channel ?

400 MHZ is the bus frequency, so it is 800MHZ DDR (Double Data Rate), so "yes, it's normal".

Dual Channel is good, it uses two 64 bit channels to your RAM, so the actual bandwith is 128 bit.

Greetings

Dru

P.S.: Ctal, hope you don't mind that i answered a question directed at you. It seems to be that i'm in a very "answering"-mood today.

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Your inputs are always most welcome and helpful, Dru; thanks!

DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 work off of both the positive-going and negative-going edges of the clock provided to them, so a 400 MHz memory clock results in an 800 MHz effective rate. As Dru indicated, the dual channel feature is a separate feature that happens to also double overall throughput.

Regards,
-- Al

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

Thanks DRufuss.

Ctal > Good,,,today i added 2 more 1 gb sticks of ram to my edit workstation.
So thats 4 gb in all. All 800 mhz. But windows recognizes only 3.25 gb as i already expected. But just added this cause ive heard at lest teh windows kernel etc would benefit buy having all 4 slots occupied and even the unrecognized .75 gb would help windows indirectly. PS: this isnt my trouble system mentioned here which is just getting started after the intel returned the board. This is the other system but was just tempted to mention it.

Re: Got my new Core 2 Duo 3ghz, Having some problems

All our slots occupied is good, so you can use Dual Channel.

The 0.75 GB of "missing" RAM are not used, because 32 bit windows has address space for 4GB but some of these addresses are already in use for other system components for example.

Greetings

Dru
