Re: hold on to your lug nuts, it's time for an overhaul

It's done. I just have to reverse the polarity of the power LED and then it's all done.

It's wicked fast and more quiet than the old computer. Can't ask for more, really.

Very smooth with ATi driver downloads and everything too (even though it's only a Radeon HD3450 it's a bajillion times faster than my Matrox G400!).

Sound works, but ALC889A is recognized as an ALC882 or something, but sound works even over S/PDIF coax (mobo also has Toslink = super).

So, a 1.36TB (real TBs) RAID5 up and running (well, building currently). This rig is so freaking fast it's stupid. I made a 25GB primary partition should I want to install Vista some time in the future.

Booting takes a while, AHCI driver init + RAID card boot = >1min, but who cares really. I'm rarely in a rush.

Way to go kONGO!!!!!!!

Re: hold on to your lug nuts, it's time for an overhaul

Right, I just ordered the Benq FP241W yesterday. Will hopefully have it next week. It'll hang off DVI instead of HDMI but that's fine by me.

24" of viewing pleasure. I'm guessing it will put my, by now, quite blurry NEC FE950+ to shame in ways I can't quite imagine.

Re: hold on to your lug nuts, it's time for an overhaul

I think the biggest thing you'll notice is all the desk space you get back. Heck, even floor space in my case. I was able to push my desk closer the wall. Now I just have more crap in the room, lol. You'll love it man. And DVI is solid, I doubt you'd ever be able to tell the difference between HDMI and DVI.

Re: hold on to your lug nuts, it's time for an overhaul

Digital is digital is digital is what I figure. I just like the idea of not having to screw around with D-sub connectors (for they are an abomination). I am looking forward to more desk space. I'm even considering getting a smaller desk.

I have so much crap everywhere it's not even funny.

HDMI?...no need for HDMI on a computer monitor...HDMI should only be used for HDTV sets and Blu Ray players on a screen 50'+...for computers--CRT all the way!...hoping my 21' CRT lasts forever

I use HDMI to connect my 50' Samsung DLP set and another one on my HD-DVD player

Re: hold on to your lug nuts, it's time for an overhaul

Holy heck in a handbasket, this new monitor is huuuge. And bright!!

1920x1200. I cannot complain. Well, there's a slight hum emanating from it, but I can totally live with that.

It's the single most expensive computer-related item I've ever bought. Totally worth it.

No pixel defects that I can see either (thought I had one, but it was just a piece of lint). August 2007 mfg date, so it has the 1:1 pixel mapping firmware.

Benq FP241W I love you.

Gorgo was right, I love the desk space savings!

Jeez it's beautiful. Turned subpixel smoothing on. Fonts look noticeably better.
