Question

I've got a cusl2 running with:
800EB
FOP 38 with Arctic silver
256 Meg Crucial 133 RAM
BIOS 1003
CPU temp : 34c idle
CPU temp after quake3 : 40c
MB temp : 30c

The thing is I don't know much about overclocking and I'm a little scared as to what settings to put it on
I want to get it to at least 1 ghz if this is possible but I don't know what settings to put the jumpers on or anything.
do I need to get the FSB and memory to about 150 mhz ?
150 x 7 (if it can be done) =1050 mhz

With the 800eb the multipiler is 6 and you can't change it! To oc you don't need to change the jumpers, you do it in the bios (change the fsb). With the fsb @150 you would get 900MHz. To reach GHz, your fsb must be about 166.
Good luck!

Wink 800Eb

Don't expext to much from the 800EB , it is a very good chip but it will proberly not be able to reach the 1000mhz. It runs at a fsb of 133 which doesn't leave much room to overclock because the other devices are going up along with your 133 mhz chip and so you will reach the top of your sys very soon. I am not giving you a bad rap on your chip but just tell you what to expect .
I had a PIII800EB and i could get 933 out of it , if i would set it to run at 960 it would do so but bench marks became so low that 933 was faster in performance , it's not alway's raw speed that count's.
HAVE FUN and enjoy your cpu because 933mhz is pretty fast anyway's!!!

Unhappy Thats correct 800eb ceiling too soon

Heavenly is right, 800eb overclocks jus fine, but you cant get past 936 (156/156/39), even when u set the cpu bus to 100) without running into problems, lastest one i had was i have an ata66 WD 15.3 g, when i overclock and try to defrag the sys, i get all sorts of corruptions. see the problem doesnt lie with the chip, but rather with the PCI's and everything else on the board ie: hard drive, cdroms, cdrw's....anything past 39-40 bus speed and these components begin to act up. i have all but given up my quest for the famed 1gig club for now, am considering purchasing a 933 p3 or perhaps the 1gig p3....Even though a p4 is still way too expensive (950) it wouldnt make any sense to put into a cusl2 because a p4 uses a 400mhz bus where as the board can only support 133, now the p4 will run on the board but will seriously be held back from its potential, in case anyone has pondered the idea of getting there hands on a p4.

my specs,
bios 1003 Final (betas suck)
p3 800eb@936 stable
256 (2x128 sticks) muskin cas2
win 98 SE
15.3 gig drive wd
hitachi 12x dvd/48x cd
plextor 12x10x32
delta cd 52x
Diamond monstersound 400
Viper 2 overclock with heatsink fan (default 125c 143m @ 155c, 175m) 5971..not bad for a $135 card!
(without overclock- 4071

Cool p3 800EB at 1033mhz ROCK SOLID

I have heard of people having problems with this chip
but after 4 120mm fans and a FOP-38 w/arctic silver
I got it to 1047mhz, but I run it at 1033mhz for stability.
vcore at 1.95 and idle temp for cpu at 31c and 42c at full load. FSB is at 172.16 Mhz
All of this and ROCK SOLID STABILITY (172/129/43)
I am curious if i am the only 800eb owner to get these speeds.

Cool 800Eb

yea there are some people that have very much luck to get a 800EB that will run at the speed you have. i think that 90% of them don't reach the 1000nhz , from the few that do a small % is reaching 1 gig and are stable also.! But like i said it's still a great chip that with good memory will outperform a PIII1000 !!!

Nick..Unfortunately so far I don't think your question has been answered. From a 'novice' overclocker, here's what little I know:
Read your manual and make sure you have the mobo set so all jumpers are disabled (meaning you make all of the changes in BIOS).
Check these basic settings in the Advanced menu of BIOS:
FSB:SDRAM:PCI Freq Ratio 133:133:33 (don't change this)
CPU core voltage = 1.65v (change only IF you know what your doing!)
SDRAM Timing: User Defined
SDRAM Latency: 2T (depending on your SDRAM)
SDRAM RAS to CAS: 2T (depending on your SDRAM)
SDRAM Pre-Charge: 2T (depending on your SDRAM)
SDRAM Page Closing: 7T,9T (start with this, later, try moving to 5T,7T which will improve mem speed if your SDRAM can handle it)
Cmd per Cycle: One Bank
SDRAM Data Driving: Normal
All of the above are starting points. As you get more comfortable with what your doing, you can start changing them. Change one, check performance with Sandra 2001, etc.
Do a 'dry' run with CPU Internal Freq set to your CPU design speed and with all other BIOS parameters set for their default settings..using Sandra, test and note your CPU (ALU/FPU), MMX Interger (FP/SSE), and your Memory(ALU/FPU). The CPU, MMX, and Memory scores are what your trying to improve.
NOW TO START overclocking:
CPU Internal Freq.: Set to MANUAL
FSB:SDRAM:PCI Freq(MHZ) - This parameter is how you get your basic overclocking working. Change it from 133:133:33 to 140:140:35 and retest your Sandra scores. You should see the improvements. You can continue moving this parameter up, either until your happy or your system gives you the BSOD, at which time you have to drop it down a notch or two. Also, you MUST keep an eye on your CPU temp while your doing the Sandra test..if your CPU temp's get much over 45C, you should stop and do some work on your heatsink/fan as, of course, you dont want to cook your CPU while your having fun!
Later, you can get more information about your SDRAM and perhaps play around with the SDRAM timing, latency, pre-charge, and closing policy.
This should get you started...but there is MUCH more!!
Anyway good luck, be careful, but have fun...
My system:
P3-866EB@1008 MHZ
CPU (2713/1353)
MMX (5453/6680)
Mem (453/535)
With FSB:SDRAM:PCI Freq(MHZ) = 155:155:38

Thumbs up PIII800EB

Hi Chester , You are totaly right , we didn't help by answering any of his questions .We only told him the limits of his cpu , strange how you can get lost in a topic!
I am glad you noticed the situation and i for one will take this in mind when i reply to another post again!
Thanks !
