| Intel boards with 1394b & PO eSATA When is it likely we will see Intel ship boards with Texas Instrument 1394b chips (Firewire 800) across the product line up replacing their use of 1394a Firewire 400? 1394b is much faster and is backwards compatible with the older slower 400Mb standard. I've had Firewire800 external HD enclosures for years now. Also when are we likely to start seeing a pair of Power Over eSATA ports on Intel boards for interfacing with external storage. I am certain the standard has been officially finalized. Once the boards start shipping with this standard storage vendors would finally begin to supply products to interface with it. Intel's UEFI 2.0 boards should also allow booting from devices connected to the Power Over eSATA. I'd be happy to sacrifice 6 USB ports, most boards are shipping with 12 USB ports which for me 6 of them are wasting space and never get used. Last edited by drayon : 09-07-2008 at 05:54 AM. |
