That's a relief. As long as that happens I can get myself up to speed on everything else. Building Intel-only systems over the last ten years or so has really spoiled me in the sense that I don't have to think about anything. Open the retail box, install the CPU, screw the motherboard into the case, install the PSU, plug in the peripherals and RAM, route cables, boot, install the OS, configure.
Pretty simple.

It's all the O/C stuff that's got me wrapped around the axle now.

Yes, the cpu will default to 1333 (quad pumped) at or near the default voltage that the cpu defines to the mobo ("vid"); the memory will default to DDR2-1066 speed, at conservative latencies, and at some reasonable default voltage; and the memory-to-fsb ratio will default to whatever is required to get the memory to 1066 speed (which would be 1066/(333 x 2) = 1.6).

The fact that it all works out so nicely follows from the fact that the mobo and bios are specified and designed to support 1333 cpu's and ddr2-1066 memories (among other speeds).

(I was just reading some game benchmarks with Crysis and BioShock at overclockersclub.com whereby the Gigabyte board beat the ASUS...)

Yeah, they have pretty boxes. The mobos look nice too. And OCZ always seems to have the nicest looking memory modules. Hope you have a window in your case

I finally found the OCZ DDR2-8500 Platinum 4GB kit at 2CoolTek. Never heard of them but I got the name off OCZ's website.
$142 with shipping.

Now all I need is for Vista, the CPU and the RAM to arrive and we can build the new game machine...

I just discovered that I have to order a 64-bit disk of Vista Business 64 after I receive my 32-bit retail disk.
I had assumed the 64-bit disk would be included with Vista Business or that I would have an option to choose 64-bit during the install process.

They include it with Vista Ultimate, but that's the only version.

Good thing I handle disappointment well.

You could always download a pirated version, burn it to a disc and use that for target practice. Unless you pack a howitzer, most ammo should go through the spindle hole in the CD without trouble, and clean shots like that are worth good points.
