Re: New Rig

My main comment concerns the power supply. I'd suggest that you consider the Corsair's, if you haven't already. They have much more of a proven track record of reliability and quiet performance than the Hiper's. I've used the CMPSU-520HX's on 3 builds, and have been very pleased with them. Their modular (removeable) cables are a very nice feature, also. You might want to consider the CMPSU-620HX to be sure you don't run out of power, considering your video card and the quad core cpu, although I'd feel fairly certain that the 520 would be adequate.

Also, it looks like you are planning to use the stock Intel cpu cooler; there are lots of other choices for $30 to $50 or so that would provide considerably lower temperatures and better overclockability.

Regards,
-- Al

Re: New Rig

Looks like some nice parts. I'd say the weak link is the PSU. All Hiper 530 models I can find have weak +12v output of 30 amps or less. I'd want at least 40 amps on the +12 on that system as a minimum. To figure the true +12v amps available on a multi rail supply take the combined +12V wattage devided by 12. Stay with a single +12 rail on any PSU 600 watt and under. This stops possible load balance problems.

If you can live with non modular cables I'd go for a Corsair 650TX.
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

If not and you must have modular cables a Corsair 620HX.
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

You are spending a lot of money on your other parts. Do not settle for a low quality PSU or you will be asking for trouble.

Re: New Rig

Also you might want to consider going with Vista x64. Gives you more memory headroom for the future. I use it at home and at the office. If you have any apps that aren't compatible you can always run them in a virtual XP session.

Re: New Rig

This is what i´m looking at right now after lots of hours on different forums.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 6MB FSB1333 Boxed

Asus P5Q-E iP45 4DDR2-DIMM 2PCI 5PCIe SATA Raid Audio DUAL GB-LAN Firewire Socket775 ATX

Corsair DOMINATOR TWIN2X4096-8500C5D 2x2GB (tot. 4GB) DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz DHX Heat Spreader CL5-5-5-15

Corsair TX Series PSU CMPSU-750TXEU 750W 140mm fan ATX 20/24-pin 4/8pin 12V

Asus Extreme Radeon HD4870X2 2GB DDR5 TV-out HDTV DUAL DVI RETAIL PCI Express

Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000rpm 16MB cache Backplane-ready SATA2

A little more expensive but i think it will work just fine for a while.I´m little worried for the memorys beacuse it seems that there been some problems with Asus and Corsair.I´m gonna read some more about that before i order.

Congrats on your choice Jefetequilla!

Got the same board, the same memory and a HD4870X2 too.
Can't say anything about the memory, runs stable on stock clock for now.

I'm using a 750W PSU right now, but believe that 600W should be sufficient. 80plus is good (all save the enviroment!) and noiseless or silent depends on the measurement method. Try to find reviews about it (i think there was a site called silentpcreviews or something like that with very good reviews)

Greetings

Dru

Re: New Rig

Drufuss. After reading some more i think i´m going to buy the Corsair TX Series PSU CMPSU-750TXEU 750W 140mm fan ATX 20/24-pin 4/8pin 12V instead. It looks like the single 12V rail is better for power hungry gpu´s.I´m very close now to send my order just a little more reading and before the weekend i hopefully has send my order.

Talking Re: New Rig

Put together my new computer today. And its works great. Installed Vista Home Premium 64. Everything went smooth and fine. When i´m finnished installing the programs i will start testing with games like Crysis Warhead to se what it can perform. I never went with Ati 4870X2 beacuse of the heat problem instead i bought a 9800GX2. And there is no heat or sound problem at all.The parts are in my sign.

Re: New Rig

Nice new build Jefetequilla.

I'm currently testing Vista Home Premium 64 with my rig (seperate install on eSata disk) and enjoy all the DX10 glory.

Heat problems with 4870X2? I thought you have good airflow in your antec case?
My midi-tower case is crammed (PSU right beneath cpu, 3 pci cards, big 4870X2 cards, tubing from water cooling), the 4870X2 is still on air and does run hot compared to previous cards, but i never had a problem because of temperature.
Compared to the 9800GX2 the 4870X2 would offer more fps in recent games.

I finally settled with the enermax 625W psu. Nive modular cabling (somehow better for my needs than the Aurora Superflower 750W) fits nice into the case (Thermaltake Thoughpower was little out of specs) and very silent (the superflower was a real "superblower", thermaltake was o.k).

Greetings

Dru
