quad cores are not really going to be 'necessary' until late 2009 at the earliest and by that time faster, better quad cores will be out along with all new CPU architecture...save your money until you know that the extra cores are going to benefit you in real world applications

**if I thought that quads would even be necessary 6 months from now I would probably recommend them...but they are a long ways away from being worthy...heck most PC users are still using single core systems

Re: new system build

E8400 here also. same reason as polonyc2. It is OK in Windows but in Mepis or Vector Linux it is fast. But then my vid card may be not such a good match, NVidia 7300 GS. Quiet though.

Nice system build there polonyc2, congrats!!

I was actually thinking about dual booting Vista and Linux but after doing some searching online it seems to have the potential for more problems
You'll love the HX 620 very quiet I can't even hear it, have you looked at the Silverstone case, very nice and lots of options!!!!

yeah Silverstone makes some beautiful cases...they not only look gorgeous but they have excellent features as well...only bad thing about them is their high price...I was actually taking a serious look at a Silverstone case this past weekend--the Silverstone TJ10

SilverStone Technology Co., Ltd - Designing Inspiration

but in the end I decided to go with a similar case--the Lian Li PC-A70...comes with 6 fans and I'm going to purchase the optional top panel that comes with 2 extra blowhole fans

techPowerUp! Review :: Lian Li PC-A70 :: Page 2 / 5

Lian Li Industrial Co., Ltd.

the Lian Li PC-A70 is very similar to the Silverstone TJ10 but with a lower price

picking out a case was the most difficult part of my entire build!!

yeah it's the exact same case as the PC-A71 with the only difference being that the PC-A71 comes with a front door

Lian Li Industrial Co., Ltd.

**I actually wanted to get the case with the front door but the price was much higher

Re: new system build

I like my SilverStone Temjin TJ03B, it has the door and all 120mm fans except the 2 on the MB tray, really you can't go wrong with either Silverstone, Lian-Li or Coolermaster, all very good cases!

Plus at $249 its come down in price sence I bought it!!!!

the only difference between your Silverstone case and the newer Silverstone models is the addition of a fan in the middle of the case that cools the graphics card...I actually think your case is the better one

Re: new system build

Poly -- I know you indicated that a window would not be of interest, but I noticed that, remarkably, Performance PCs has the same case with a window for $10 less than NewEgg charges for the case with no window:

Lian Li PC-A70B Black Aluminum Full Tower Case with Window Products Model: PC-A70BW [PC-A70BW] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

Thats a great price, plus if you want a 120mm fan on that side window,I think its only $10 for the blowhole?

Performance-pcs has the PC-A70B without the window for $209.95...the windowed version is $30 more expensive plus I don't like windwed cases

but thanks for giving me the idea to look into Lian Li cases...the PC-A10 was not exactly the perfect case for my needs but it helped me find the PC-A70 case
