| WOW!!! 5160 - 3.00 GHz clock, 1333 MHz FSB, $851 per 1K CPU //Available June 19th It takes four dual-core Opterons to beat this chip not to forget it will have a TDP of around 65W. "However, while the Woodcrest CPU is a monster, that's only in single and dual socket terms. The 1066/1333 MHz Front Side Bus kicks everything in single and dual socket configurations, but not by four dual core Opterons." This may be the chip to get vs. the Conroe EE. What problems do you guys see using this vs. a Conroe? I'm not sure the pin layout but if it goes in the D975XBX that would be awesome. |

| Woodcrest will be on LGA771, so a completely different socket from Xeons now. Although there has been much talk about an enthusiast Woodcrest motherboard much like what the PC-DL is for the old Xeons.

ConroeEE + D975XBX (newer version) Woodcrest + new mobo Quad Core + new mobo All with in a year. Intel appears to have such a fast new architecture that it will apply easily to the enthusiast market and Intel will have to have a benchmark bragging rights solution intended to beat AMD. Intel also appears to be pricing these new chips modestly intending to garner a lot of market share. I think they will take back what AMD took from them plus the market is always growing anyway. AMD is going to be getting real nostalgic soon and I believe they will be holding on to Intels coattails again for a long long time. | |

| I got word that Conroe EE will be available on or right after launch of Core Duo this June/July. The EE will be at 2.93GHz/1066FSB, has HT, and does a 3.6GHz OC easily on air. Details should appear about the second week of June which is very very soon if you don't realize. Life is too good for me right now. |

| When the Conroe comes out, is Intel planning to reduce the prices on the 9xx series by a considerably margin? It appears rather bleak to consider the Conroe for my 955 mobo and I have a store credit of $200 at Monarch so I was hoping to get the 950 for $250. This will pretty much protect me with hardware situations for the next three to five years. There's no way I can afford a Conroe + motherboard for the same price that can deliver the power I need for video encoding. Update: Looks like the 950 might be possible for $250. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/04...icing_details/ |

| Pointreyes, the 900 series newer core are very good processors. I still want the 965EE. |

| Remember how Clovertown, the 4 core based Merom-derived CPU was thought to be 130W?? Not really. Quote:

| IT'S OFFICIAL!!! Core 2 Duo, WILL be the fastest CPU, by a WIDE margin: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5692&page=1 39.5% advantage of Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz/1066MHz FSB/4MB L2 over AM2 Athlon 64 FX-62 2.8GHz using DDR2-800 memory, in Farcry. 29.8% advantage of E6600 over the same AM2 FX-62. 34% advantage of E6700 over S939 FX-60. 24.7% of E6600 over S939 FX-60. The rest of the games are 1600x1600 with 4x AA 16x AF, which isn't really good CPU comparison. The fact that there is still couple of % improvement shows the power of the CPU. People who actually care about gameplay, or those that play competitively will play at resolutions that Conroe has vast advantage at. I am happy. |

| On the other hand, it looks like the Core 2 Duo might be a bit memory bandwidth limited. One can imagine the performance with integrated memory controllers. |

| Looks like the info on the tweakers.net site may be wrong or not fully shown for some of Conroe CPUs, as E6400 out in the wild is all 4MB L2. http://tweakers.net/nieuws/41855/?highlight=conroe A comprehensive Conroe benchmark: http://www.pconline.com.cn/diy/evalu...05/791941.html Summary: Core 2 Duo E6400(2.13GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB), using 946GZ chipset, which is a value version of 965, is faster than Athlon FX-60 at 2.6GHz in nearly every benchmark. |

| Hey Eldonko, long time no see. I am looking forward to seeing these threads grow in ABX. You can never have too many people in here and the more we get the stronger we become. We are off to a good start with solid members who know more about Conroe than anybody plus there are plenty of helpful Intel mobo users around here. Once people start tasting Intel mobo's they will be happier and have more time to post their happy posts in ABXZone. In reality, there will be tons of news, updates, and goings on about Intel Core Duo and associated mobo's to post about. There will also be a commonality between a lot of the members who will be using Intel chipsets and processors plus there should be a large influx of new members in the Intel chipset threads. Once you start helping people they will stick around and repay you just as I and others have done. ABXZone should become bigger and better than ever. |
