| Heya Sandog I was about to pull the trigger on an AM2 setup today but after watching 12s 1M by fugger I cant do it now. He beat my PB by almost 10 seconds with less cooling and without the top of the line CPU. Guess I'll be keeping the CC in the wallet for another month and going conroe all the way. ![]()

| Okay, okay... so I may upgrade this year... <evil grin> My Sig setup does Super PI in 42 secs... :o( The conroe E6600 maybe the one for me (Price pending) The Bad Axe looks like the board to go with as well. Does Asus have an equivalent? P.S. I've never been so excited to upgrade as I am with the onset of conroe ![]()

The upgrade to Conroe and a 975/965 chipset board will be the biggest jump in performance ever offered between a previous chipset/CPU. Plus it's all Intel which means the utmost in quality, stability, dependability, and support. Nobody can go wrong.

. When K8L comes out next year, Conroe may face significant competition. Though most of the improvements are copies from Conroe, basically.

| Quote: That has to really hurt. A 2.13GHz part beating AMD's top of the line FX part so easily. What will the 2.67GHz Conroe or better yet the 3.0EE which is said to OC to 3.6GHz do? How much will the FX-60 cost in 3mos? $399? I feel so sad for AMD, I really do. Quote:

| I just got word that the Conroe 3.3GHz chip is being held for AMD's K8L release. The Conroe EE (2.93GHz) will be released with the regular Core Duo's I believe. The yields are very good on the Conroe EE as the 2.93GHz EE is really a down-clocked 3.3GHz EE. Right now the current Conroe EE is able to do 3.8GHz ON AIR with stock voltage. This may be a prime engineering sample but probably the final version will be as good or better. Expect at least 3.4-3.6GHz from the unlocked 2.93GHz Conroe EE chip due out soon. The 2.93GHz EE would go good in my new case. ![]() |

I heard 2nd or 3rd week of July for Conroe, but it may be pulled in by 1-2 weeks just like Woodcrest. And btw, its Core 2 Duo

| This is the official Conroe information thread. However, I am also gonna start putting in Merom and Woodcrest details. I should have just named it Core microarchitecture CPU thread. Woodcrest will have three variants, according to power: performance, MV(medium voltage), and LV(low voltage) 3.0GHz: 80W 2.4GHz+ to under 3.0GHz: 65W(MV) 2.4GHz and below: 40W(LV) So it means with optimizations, Intel can put Meroms lower than 40W. Clovertown details(Quad core, Xeon variant): 120W, for highest 80W, for MV 65W(LV??) (Not to be confused, Xeon 51xx is Woodcrest and 50xx is Dempsey) |

| Intel_User that sounds like a great idea. I would like you to be the official Core thread person here at ABXZone which you are already. I would have seperate threads for each of the 3 platform cores though. Woodcrest needs its own thread anyway. I will stick your threads. I plan on starting some new chipset board threads soon. Some new news: "Final 965 boards will debut at Computex, launching in late June/early July, do not be surprised if retail ready Core chips are being stocked before 6/23. Intel is trying to figure out when to let the hammer fall right now....figure it will be first of July as they can claim huge Q3 upside and with AM2 being a bust at this point, no reason to hurry it out this quarter...." Some people are impatient but not me. I believe I am more looking forward to Intel looking good than I am owning the actual hardware. I want Intel to make this historic hardware release at the best time and when enough chips and chipsets are stocked to handle demand. I don't want Intel looking bad in anyway. Intel appears to hold all the cards this time but there is always room for mistakes. |

| Wow the loyalty heh. I go with the fastest hardware out at the time, I could care less who makes it. It's all about performance.
