| Maybe I didn't read the above posts close enough but sata drives have no master/slave relationship so I don't see how that could be your problem. You only have to worry about that on ide drives because there can be more than 1 drive on the same cable. So is your system working ust.dk? It really shouldn't matter if your drives are on sata1,2 or sata3,4. When you re-installed your cpu did you get thermal paste all over the place? They say it's not conductive but they also say not to get it on your components because it might be conductive Did you inspect your mobo for damage? Break off a capacitor or something?

| On Page 2-29 of the manual it shows the bottom 2 sata plugs as being the ones that are on the promise controller, (or am I reading that wrong?) Can a sata port access both controllers? So, what ports do you have the sata drives plugged into now? These ones are for RAID ONLY..

| Page 2-26 shows the ICHR5 connectors (you shouldn't need drivers for these ones)

| I think something is wrong with the power connector. maybee you have connected the supply pin with wrong voltage or the IDE cable is faulty. ![]() |

The issue seems to be how the ICH5R and Promise RAID interact it seems. The m/b owner's manual is sparse and non-existent on how to properly setup the HDD. So it's hunt/peck, or asking on forums for help. usk, your drives are SATA so it'll need enhanced/SATA or enhanced/SATA+P-ATA. Go into the BIOS and check if Onboard Promise Controller is ENABLED/[RAID]. If you want ICH5R, turn off the Promise Controller (crazy, but both of those options are in two different menus and Promise is enabled by default). DXM | |

| Hiya guys:wave2: Yes my system is up and running; no problems what so ever. The new plugins rock, heh DXM, the settings you mention were already enabled during the, whole, process. And as to whether I might have damaged my mb during the thermal pate-change thing; well maybe. Of cause I was careful not to get thermal paste on any other components, besides my CPU, but maybe, how is it possible check? |

| The silver can get stuck on the fingers at sizes so small that it's hard to see. It may have transfered from your fingers to the connectors. Doesn't take much of the silver to cause trouble. In jewellry making silver can literally coat you (I had to wear a face mask while just polishing it), and without carefully cleaning up, your mouth will taste like licking tin cans for days -- even if you can't see the particles. Need to take a photo of it's magnet properties too (has some filaments stuck like crystals on some copper based tweezers jewellers use). The stuff is messy, which is another reason I went with Shin Etsu <-- it goes on like semi-soft butter and more difficult to transfer. DXM |
