P4P800-E deluxe, unable to find HDD's

Hiya, hope you guys can help me out, cause i've heard you'r pretty smart!

I had just finished applying some new thermalpaste on my CPU and GPU, becuase my temps. seemed to be increasing; it all went smooth..
But when I wanted to boot my PC up gain, after my little project, it would'nt/could'nt find my two raptors ( one of them contains the OS ).
It could on the other hand easily find my ATA hdd, which is my storage disk.
I then decided to replug all of my HDD cable, be it power connectors or simply the cable to my motherboard; but non of this helped. I even reset my bios/cmos thing!
So I was like, bleh.."What to do now? I find it odd, that from one day to another it stops working..I have had non similar problems, what so ever..

My setup is:

P4 3,2 Ghz
P4P800-Edeluxe Bios 1009
WD raptor 75 Gb, WD Raptor 36GB

Hope you guys can help me; and please feel free to ask..:wave2:

Hmm..Okay i've just found out something wierd.
In the Bios, the Promise Fasttrack IS able to locate my two Sata Raptors, unlike my bios. I am even able to create a array with only one HDD; the one with my OS. But when I then select that array as first boot-device, I get the Windows loading screen, and then i get a blue Windows error..
Evenmore, under the Promise Fasttrack menu in the bios i can select IDE instead of RAID, and in that way boot with SATA raptors, but not even in safemode am I able to get pass the windows loading screen; the blue windows error appears.
I simply do not get it! my BIOS is unable to find my Sata Raptors, but the RAID device (Promise Fasttrack utility) clearly states that there are two WD HDD; one with 36Gb and one with 75Gb!
I a m really lost

once again i hope you guys can help me out.
BTW i updated my bios from 1009 to 1010, but it did'nt help

thanks:wave2:

If they're SATA, check the cables, both ends. Had the same problem, and one of my SATA cables must have been loose at the HDD end, unplugging and replugging fixed it.

That's a dirty lie...

It's not really surprising that windows won't boot when you create a single disk raid array because you didn't install windows with your raid drivers.

Do you have access to another sata hard drive that you can hook up to your mobo? Can you test your hard drives in another system? From what you described it sounds like something with the motherboard but it can't hurt to rule out the hard drives first.

Did you enable both SATA + P-ATA in BIOS? And are you using the Enhanced mode (required for XP)?

One thing is for sure, this P4P800-E Deluxe HDD settings are really weird. Have my two disks on IDE 3 and 4 because it won't recognize as primary and secondary no matter what jumper settings, or BIOS settings. :/ It works, but it's weird.

No thats the problem, im not able to test, neither, the mobo or the two HDD's on another system. I don't know anyone who has a SATA motherboard.

Hmm I will try to play around with the settings, but I was wondering if you guys could give me a thoroughly walkthrough on which/how (the) settings should be altered?

Btw thanks for your replies; "Ohh..what that? There at the end of the tunnel? Yea I thought so! Its light!"

Additional Comment:
Okay i made sure that the bios was set on "enhanced mode" and "Sata+pata", but with no luck.
Should I alter the slave/master settings on the HDD's? Because I havent touched them at all; I have no expererince with it, what so ever. Or should I try changing the IDE settings to 3 and four like you suggested? Advices?

Hope you can help me because, im desperate. Im on the nap to buy a new MB!

Oh, the jumpers are tricky. I got both on CS, as that's the only way it would recognize. :/ On IDE they'll show up as third and fourth devices, not master and slave on the primary.

And with IDE, I made sure to use only Enhanced/P-ATA.

Could you guys explain? maybe?

With IDEs (with no RAID) only 4 devices can be added with 2 IDE slots (only 2 devices per IDE slot). Normally if you want to piggyback 2 HDD you'll setup the primary IDE slot for the master and slave drives. To do so you'll have to make them Master and Slave by taking the jumper and designating each.

With the P4P800-E Deluxe it appears it doesn't operate the normal way. It offers 4 IDE devices conventionally, and IDE RAID (with a seperate slot). Problem is the master/slave jumper settings that work on previous motherboards don't seem to work on the P4P800-E. In Enhance/P-ATA mode the Promise controller takes over (even if disabled in BIOS), and the master/slave setup doesn't work. Have to put the jumpers on the CS setting on the HDD, instead. Which shows the drives as 3rd and 4th IDE devices. The DVD and CD/RW shows up as 1st and 2nd devices, leaving the Primary and Secondary IDE as blank.

It's screwed up that way, but it works and is recognized.

I turned a system on not too long ago without the molex plugged in to the video card and it booted, I could see it on the screen check the ram etc, it wouldn't recognize the ide drive then it sat there waiting for an F2 to get into setup.... (it didn't give a boot disk failure msg....had me stumped for a minute)

I have just found out that my motherboard holds four SATA-plugins; I did'nt know that before
And not to my supprise, when i plugged the SATA-cables to the, newly found, plugins my motherboad DOES find both HDD's! So my problem is partly solved, though it stiller buggers me why, all of a sudden, the other two plugins failed; it's quite disturping, I think.
Any suggestions as to why this happend?
DeusExMachina, Im confused

Any chance you unplugged them when you did the HS thing? I'f so, you likely plugged them back into the promise controller instead of the ICHR5 (intel) controller
The intel one doesn't need raid drivers to see SATA Drives , the promise one does..
If you didn't have them unplugged one of your controllers may have gone south.
