Unhappy System leaves the stand-by mode on itself

My configuration:
win xp pro, sp2, all patches installed
pentium 4 2.8 533 FSB
4 x 256 MB RAM, 2700
asus P4S800D-E Deluxe, SiS 655TX/964 based
BIOS 1008, the latest official release
asus ATI9600 XT/TV
P-ATA 80GB WD
cordless optical mouse, silvercrest 12018
PS2 keybord
An multicard reader (compact flash and Co. are connected steady)

I am not able to switch my system to the stand-by mode
durable.
If the stand-by mode is already reached, the CPU fan continues
to rotate.
Afer several secands / some time after several minutes
the system starts-up on itself.

My bios settings (I have tried other settings as well, no success):
Suspend Mode Auto
Respond Video on S3 Resume No
ACPI 2.0 Support yes
ACPI APIC Support enabled
Power Botton Mode On/Off
Restore on AC Power Loss Always Off

Power on by PS2 Kaybord ctrl-esc
All other options 'Power on by ...' disabled

In the win hardware manager the mouse is not enabled to
wake-up the system. But the above option is grayed-out -
'allow the system to turn off this device to save power'
actually why is this setting grayed-out ?

I didn't the problems with the previous installation:
win xp pro, sp1, wired and non-optical mouse.

I have noticed, that dragging the mouses causes the immediatelly
system start-up. But why ? I have disabled it actually.

Do you have some ideas on possible reason ?

Thank you for every hint in advance.

Check the same settings on your USB root hubs. You will probably see the reverse situation but this time try checking the "allow the system to turn off the device to save power"....

My BIOS has an entry 'wake on PME event'
when I enable this setting I have the same issue.
Look and see if you have this as well.
