Are there any mATX mobos with Firewire?

I am trying to piece together a cheap system for Linux. I have a Asus P4P800-E (BTW still for sale) received from an RMA but don't want to build a big system. I am looking at a Chenming MATX-118 case and need a Socket 478 mobo that supports Northwood C and has AGP slot, 2x SATA and firewire (headers are okay). At this point chipset doesn't matter too much. How are the VIA chipsets for this platform, PT800? The only mobo that seems to fit this is a FIC P4M-800T. Anybody know where to even get these? I looked on ebay, price {watch, grabber} and no luck.

I couldn't fine one with all those options either. Best bet is to get one without firewire and just use an add-in card. They cost less than $20. Unless you need all 3 pci slots for something else.

you know that bites. they should have to do like the car mfg. when they discontinue a model they have to have 5 yrs replacement parts available. Intel should have the same standards. if nothing else they would sell a few more mobs.
if this board goes i"m setting here with 2.8E as a paper weight.

I found a good mobo, Asus P4RD1-MX, http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l...71&modelmenu=1

that has SATA, socket 478 and decent X300 graphics (remember, low cost, but with PCIe slot to upgrade), dual channel DDR400 and Xpress 200 chipset. Add in a firewire PCI card I guess. Have they ironed out the problems with the Xpress 200 chipset? I believe it was with USB, right? The only problem is where to find this mobo in the US? It looks like it is in Europe and Canada only.

Take a look at Foxconn motherboards. I built 2 systems for my own use using Foxconn and I know that they have the Firewire headers, but I am not sure about them having 2 sata connections. I will check out the documentation in a while and will post back about that.

Edit: the Foxconn 865M01-G-6ELS supports 2 SATA devices, and has 2 firewire headers and 8 USB 2.0 slots. It is a micro ATA board.

You know I've done some number crunching and it is cheaper for me to sell off both the P4P800-E and 2.6c and build a socket 939 system. It would look like this:

Chenming MATX-118 or Aspire QPack case $76
MSI K8NGM2-FID (with 6200 graphics, sound, lan, FIREWIRE) $80
LiteOn DVD burner $35
AMD 3000+ Venice Retail $135
1GB Corsair VS $65

Then I'll use a WD 80GB IDE drive I have in an enclosure, spare KB, mouse.

There are fewer extras to buy with this system, plus it has a decent upgrade path until socket 939 cpus run dry. As for a monitor? I don't want to buy a Video switcher with lousy quality, so just swap the cable from one system to another.

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

Or you could get this Asus and a cheap Celeron-D proc.
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...ID1-DT&cat=SYS

Comes with firewire and even a 7-in-1 card reader.
