Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

If the program starts to flash and says crashing then your OC isnt stable thats the hole point of the program.

I think thats what it reports when it aborts do to the cpu temp hitting the 70C limit also. The hotter a CPU runs the shorter its life so you have to put the limit somewhere.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

It says crashed...and happens right way...4 seconds after starting...I was thinking it was a driver issue.

Other than that, I've looked at few reviews, and think going from my arctic cooler freezer 7 to a xigamatek 1283, thermalright ultra 120, or cooler master hyper 212, coupled with two 140mm top case fans should have everything in check. Still on air.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

Leave your cpu voltage at stock and set the fsb to 333 and see if it is stable with occt.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

You are right...it was temp...but not the core...temp 2...an IT8718F...what is an IT8718F. Is that the Northbridge?

Actually ran fine at 380...had a problem at 390...

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

HELP...Is there documentation to OCCT? It does crash...but it can't be on temp...nothing is close to 70. Does it have a log file?

Thanks,

David

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

The cpu doesnt have to reach max temp before it will crash. If the program crashs then your cpu isnt stable. The Q6600 B3 is rated at 64C i believe.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

And another update...the Speed Fan labels were confusing. Temp 2, that did hit 70, was the CPU. Temp 1 is 'System', presumably the northbridge? My gess is that any of the big, vertical, air coolers--Xigamatek 1283, Thermalright Ultra 120, or Cooler Master Hyper 212--would be 5-10 degrees cooler, solving the problem. I'll order one tomorrow. Until then, 380 seems ok. I could probably run the 2.5 memory divider, raising it from 912 to 950.

I will probably go with the Xigamatek because: 1) in the only comparitive reviews, it gave the best results; 2) it gives the option of using the standard board cooler mounts, which will simplify a first install, and 3) it is the least expensive, at $50 including the fan.
