Question What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

Right now at 390x9, memory at x2 for 780 with 5-5-5-15.

Is this reasonable for a Q6600, or am I pushing it too hard? Is more or less than what other people are getting?

Thanks,

David

For a Q6600, 3600-3700mhz is reasonable. I've run mine @ 3.6gig day in, day out. I'm now running an E8400.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

What are your CPU and Core temps under heavy load? Say running Prime95.
Software reported temps can be off a mile. See Core 2 Quad and Duo Temperature Guide

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

I set the memory to 2xclock, and ran to 390Mhz, 780 memory.

Set the memory to 3xclock, and ran it to 320Mhz, 960 memory

Have tried the two together. running memory at 2.4xclock, starting at 333Mhz...got a failure at 400Mhz, 960 memory

Now running 395 memory at 2.4xclock or 948. So far, so good.

Got a 6032 on 3DMark06, with those setting on an ATI X1950 Pro at 624/770. Will try a NVidia 8800GT at 660/1900 later in the week. From the 3DMark06 stuff online, that should bring it to the 13000-14000 level.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

The B3 Core does 3ghz easy and the G0 Core does 3.2ghz real easy. You dont seem much B3 core's over 3.4ghz because of heat problems. I would check your temps the B3's run real hot.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

In a 6120 3DMark06 test, Core 0 max'd at 67C, mostly in the 50s, the others were in the 40s and 50s, some hitting 60 even.

What is the best temp test to use? What is a high temp? What is too high a temp? The Catalyst Software had an optimization that set the video card to 621Mhz GPU/796Mhz Mem, the system is running 3.55Ghz CPU, 474Mhz memory

Sorry, didn;t realize you had a B and not a GO stepping cpu. 3-3.2gig for a B stepping if I recall right.

Are you sure its crashing and not aborting. By default it will abort the test if your core temps go over 70C.
I would never go over 55-60C Tcase or 70C Tjunction. Any Tjunction temp over 65C I'd think about backing your O/C down a bit.

Re: What is a reasonable Q6600 overclock

It said crashed...the other program did drive it up to 69.

And maybe would shutdown at 70. The question is: is 70 too hot? I recall seeing those temp years ago...haven't done much OC lately
