| Xeon users Input needed I am considering building a Dual Xeon Workstation. I was thinking of using these processors: Processor Frequency 3.2 GHz sSpec Number SL7PF CPUID String 0F41H Pinout 604-pin Core Voltage 1.287V-1.400V Bus Speed 800 MHz Core Stepping E0 L2 Cash Size 1 MB L2 Cache Speed 3.2 GHz Bus-Core Ratio 16 Xeon 64-bit processor 3.2GHz/800MHz FSB/1MB L2 Cache Passive Thermal Solution Is anyone running these processors and do you think it would be a deal for 2 under 500 dollars? How do they compare to a dual core P4? thanks

| They sound like the same as I am running except for the passive thermal solution. I am not sure how they can do that because mine need active thermal solution. As far as comparing them to a dual core P4 that may be more of an issue with the mobo because of the different chip sets involved. The price is lower than I paid but that was several months ago and cpu prices drop with age. |

| So I can only use passive cooling or can a fan or even water be used? Are you pleased with the set-up?

| I do not know if a fan or water can be added. Mine came with the active cooling in the box. I went with the dual xeon because I needed PCI-X slot for a hardware raid card and all the mobo with that were dual xeon. The system has worked fine. |

| If I were you I would look to see if you can find the Irwindale 3.2's or the 2MB L2 Cache versions. The reason being is that like current daul core P4's they share the same single FSB. So the larger the cache on the cpu the less the cpu needs to go to main memory, which should increase performance. As a comparison my server in my sig would take 10% longer folding just one QMD, than my gaming computer at stock. Running two QMD's resulted in about 45% langer time to complete one QMD. The reason for the increase is merely because only one cpu have have the bus at a time.
