| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! So how many PPD would I get with a 8800 gts? I dont have time to look right now.. at work... nm 8800GTS 512 finishes a WU in 25 minutes.

| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! Hmm, maybe I need to save my pennies for a second 9600GT and a couple of aftermarket coolers (once they get the GPU2 client working on multiple GPUs per machine like the original GPU client). From what I've heard, the 280 is an absolute beast - and will soon be even faster once a couple of optimizations are finished. Oh, here's a sample 8800 result from the forum: Quote:

| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! You need the modded drivers to work with the 8800, the 177.35 are only for the 280/260. |

| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! Thanks... I think I got it working...Looks like for my GPU, it should be good for about 2k points per day. It's doing 1 frame of a 98 point WU every 45 seconds So if my math is right about 2k per day. Unfortunately, the GPU uses about 20% CPU time so that should reduce my output from my quad core by about 20%.

| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! Running the SMP client is probably reducing the PPD from your Vid card as well, since the GPU client uses allot of bandwidth from the processor to the card. |

| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! No, you need a G80 core or better (8xxx or better). Another thing folks need, FYI, is good cooling. Consumer GPUs aren't meant for 24x7 use. Dual slot coolers are probably OK, otherwise directed cooling withing the case or 3rd party coolers are a good idea to keep the temps down. |

my 8800gts 640 ran overnight and stayed a consistent temp, less than 20 degrees above idle temp. It does not get quite as hot as it does when playing a high-end 3d game. | |

| Re: FAH GPU client now Available for nVidia! Good point. It really depends on the card in question and it's cooling solution. And temps will go up as the folding code gets more efficient. And NO, I haven't ever played a game for 24 hours straight - I used to play UT2003/2004 for about 24 hours a week, but my wife was ready to kill me so I had to stop. |
