Folding Question

I notice a lot of you recommend using the flags -advmethods & -forceasm.
I have noticed when using -advmethods I only seem to get Gromacs cores that are worth 57 points. If I drop that flag I get Tinker cores that are worth 241 points.
Can anyone explain to me in simple terms what the benefit of -advmethods is?
Thanks.

Yes Metalman, the info in that post is dated. Before, Gromacs were only a beta core and they offered more points per week than tinkers. Gromacs are now mainstream cores and they do not offer more PPW. If you want to increase your ppw now, you have to use the large packet flag. They are by far the most ppw you will achieve. My Athlon 64 does over 2k ppw now running those. The only draw back is that they are large downloads-- 3-5 MB and they use about 100 MB of ram to cruch. If you have plenty of ram, it's not a problem. But if you only have 256 or 512, it may cause some issues.

I'll work on changing my post about the flags. I need to gather up some information.

Also, I will work on updating the main post. The guy that posted it originally does not post here a lot anylonger. Although he still folds for us.

SupDawg,
You are super! Thanks, I think I know what to do now. This Large Packet Flag you mention I don't think it's a flag. I think it shows up in the configuration screen. It's one of the last questions. I will definately go over my settings tonight.
Thanks again!!

Ok, I have another folding question:
How do you download 600 point work units? Sometimes I get them and sometimes I don't Usually I get the 302 point ones. Is there some way to request a 600 point one?

The proteins are randomly selected by the Stanford servers and sent to your machines. There's no way to request a particular protein to fold on your machines.

You should keep the "highly optimized assembly code" enabled.

The only setting you need to enable is the option for proteins greater than 5MB in size as SupDawq mentioned in his post.

Talking Another folder here!

I just started the folding.

I put my spare Pentium 4 to work on this. I did not read all the posts as there are many.

If this goes well, I might put another computer to work as well. I have 5 computers, all very fast by current standards. But 2 I cannot use for this and 1 I shouldn't use, but am sure I can use 2 and I might build a 3rd, although that last one would be pretty slow. (Pentium 3 500MHz...I don't think that one would even be worth it.) But I am new to this so, we'll see.

Question Now come the questions...

How can I increase my production? At this time I have a dedicated P4.

I see that having a HT enabled machine can help a lot. Given my machine's specs, can someone please sum up for me what I should do to get the most of this one machine? Here's what I got again:
Pentium 4 3.2C @ 800FSB
1GB Corsair 3200C2 running in dual channel mode
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Windows 2000 Professional SP4
What flags should I put? (like the large packet one? not sure what that one is) I have a pretty fast DSL line @ 1600/384 so I don't mind the downloads.

I was trying to read through the posts but I got pretty confused. I downloaded the 5.02 text only client. Should I have 2 clients to use the 2 threads? How do I do that and get 2 machine IDs or whatever? Thanks.

no need for 2 machine id's when using 2 instances. to fully utilize HT you need to run 2 consoles on one machine, this should increase your production by about 30%

under advanced options there is an option for large wu's >5mb, enable that.
